About the Department
JOB SUMMARY
The KCET Student Worker provides front desk support, general office assistance, and peer tutoring services to students enrolled in the KCET program. This position plays an important role in creating a welcoming, supportive environment for students and staff.
- This is a part-time position for approximately 6 hours per week.
- Tentative Work Schedule: Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 9:00am until 12:00pm.
- This position is funded through the Federal Work Study program. Applicants must complete their FAFSA for the 2025-2026 academic year and be determined eligible for Federal Work Study.
Position Duties
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
To perform the job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each essential duty. - Help students understand core concepts covered in class and explain assignment instructions.
- Support faculty by preparing, organizing, and setting up course materials, supplies, and equipment for face-to-face and distance education classes.
- Attend instructor’s face-to-face classes to assist with logistics and participate in classroom activities.
- Assist instructors with grading assignments.
- Identify and record common problem areas for the purpose of developing support services and reference materials.
- Greet and assist students, staff, and visitors at the front desk; answer phones and direct inquiries to appropriate staff.
- Provide clerical and office support including filing, copying, scanning, data entry, and maintaining program records.
- Assist students with tutoring in core subjects (such as math, reading, writing, and computer skills), under staff guidance.
- Support staff with special projects, events, and workshops as assigned.
- Help maintain a professional and organized office and learning environment.
- Adhere to Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) Regulations.
- Follow and enforce all KCC policies and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES NEEDED TO PERFORM THIS ROLE
- Ability to establish good rapport with students, co-workers, and the general public.
- Understanding of confidentiality rules (FERPA training required; may be completed upon hire).
- Must be reliable, punctual, and able to fulfill responsibilities consistently.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to clearly explain complex concepts.
- Patient, supportive, and encouraging when working with students of diverse learning needs.
- Comfortable receiving direction, learning new skills, and performing customer service tasks (e.g., answering phones).
- Strong math skills for tutoring elementary through high school levels.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently while also following instructions.
- Ability to work effectively with students from various backgrounds, cultures, and academic levels to foster an inclusive environment.
- Basic computer skills (Canvas, Microsoft Office, email, standard office equipment).
- Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred (but not required).
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Must be a current student at Klamath Community College.
- Must have completed the FAFSA for 2025-2026 academic year and been determined eligible for Federal Work Study.
- Must be willing to work a flexible schedule based on class times and instructor’s office hours.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
- Frequently moving from stationary sitting positions to standing and walking.
- Ability to lift up to 20 pounds.
