About You
This role focuses on developing and supporting RMIT’s pipeline of commercialisation opportunities being shaped for investment and new company formation, guiding them from early-stage identification through to the pre-seed stage and beyond. You will play a critical role in shaping, mentoring, and positioning these initiatives for investment and long-term success, while also managing the processes associated with investment governance, and providing strategic investment advice.
We are seeking an experienced venture investment manager who thrives in complex environments, has a passion for innovation and commercialisation, and is motivated by helping researchers and founders translate ideas into impactful ventures. Drawing on your networks, commercial acumen and experience in deal structuring, you will amplify the scale and quality of investment-ready opportunities in the RMIT pre-seed pipeline and accelerate the formation of new companies based on world-class IP.
To be successful in this position, you’ll have as a minimum:
- Post graduate degree in the relevant area of science, technology and/or business with demonstrated experience in commercialising University research, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and education.
- Experience in managing and curating a technology pipeline in concert with stakeholders.
- Experience providing recommendations and advice at senior management, Investment Committee and executive management level.
- Start-up creation or board experience to guide and assist founders and their early-stage technology companies to develop the business and achieve success.
- Complex Venture/Deal structuring experience to ensure models of translation are fit-for-purpose and align RMIT interests with investors, partners and overall commercial strategy of the venture.
- Demonstrated ability to work across a range of technology options with proven mentoring and communication expertise.
- Solid track record of working successfully with researchers, students and other stakeholders to develop commercialisation initiatives.
- Proven ability to collaborate and deliver results in a complex organisation and/or a university environment.
- Demonstrated risk management experience in establishment of commercial initiatives.
