Here at Sony Music Entertainment, we are shaping what’s next in a way that creates impact. Forging powerful new ideas at the heart of music, technology, and culture that entertain and move people.
This is your opportunity. Part of a global community, united by individual passion, rising to that challenge every day. Adapting at pace and supporting one another, inspired to influence the future. For the benefit of you, our people; our creators, our business, and wider society too.
This is your chance to shape your impact on Sony Music and beyond: contribute to the future of a dynamic industry, gain international business experience, and grow in a fast-paced, high-impact environment, with the support of a global brand.
The Global Business Development & Digital Strategy team, split evenly between New York and London, focuses on executing and renewing revenue-generating commercial deals monetizing Sony Music’s vast catalogue with a broad range of companies globally, from major streaming partners to emerging AI startups. You will join an international team of data-savvy negotiators and business analysts, who operate on the front lines with strong work ethic and genuine team spirit.
As Business Analyst Intern, you will be trained and exposed to digital distribution deal structures and strategies. You will gain an understanding of how music copyrights are licensed, of the general structure of our industry, and of how commercial agreements with global and multi-territory digital partners are negotiated and executed. You will grow your ability to summarise complex thoughts, crystallise situations and potential options, isolate action points and communicate them effectively in writing to stakeholders
You will prepare and maintain benchmarking analysis tools and contribute to ad hoc projects including researching markets and business opportunities, documenting and comparing commercial agreements, and conducting in depth business analysis while working closely with negotiators, business analysts across London and New York, as well as local Sony affiliates around the world. You will establish yourself as a point of contact for queries relating to these areas by forging strong relationships across the business and with external contacts.
What you'll do:
- Run actionable business analysis from large datasets (not just numbers, but also contracts, research etc.), pulling, visualizing, and presenting insights to instruct deal negotiations.
- Maintain internal KPI trackers and tools (macro streaming market landscape, status on licensing, availability and pricing of hundreds of partners) using first-party partner reporting data.
- Track and benchmark key commercial terms across our different commercial partners.
- Assess performance, prepare business reviews and development activities with key partners.
- Research and monitor the digital marketplace to identify and assess new revenue opportunities.
- Take minutes and isolate action points in department meetings and international conference calls.
- Gather information from local operating companies and share learnings regularly and effectively.
Who you are:
- You have a strong interest in the media & entertainment business, and you enjoy tracking innovation and opportunities with new technologies, preferably with some work experience in these areas. A passion towards music is a plus.
- You are confident in your analytical, numeracy and computing skills, especially Excel and PowerPoint. You have some knowledge or at least an interest in data visualisation tools e.g. Alteryx, PowerBI and/or Tableau, and some experience working on financial modelling and quantitative business analysis. SQL skills are a plus.
- You own your work: you demonstrate a high attention to detail and a strong sense of responsibilities.
- You are highly organised, able to multi-task and you can work to deadlines while working independently.
- You are team player with strong integrity who loves learning and gathering information systematically to establish facts and proactively put forward ideas and solutions.
- You like to provide, receive, solicit and act on feedback.
