Purpose of the Role

The Distribution Specialist’s focus is on the successful execution of the Distribution target operating model and strategy. They will coordinate with AEGIS London’s underwriters, brokers and coverholders (in the UK, US and international), ensuring consistent delivery of messaging in line with the Distribution strategy, and assessing potential business opportunities, for the purpose of generating business for the Company in line with underwriting appetite. They will work in conjunction with the Data Science & Analytics team to support with the analysis of data and the production of KPI’s, feeding this information back to the relevant underwriting teams, as appropriate, to develop a targeted approach per class of business. Business travel will be required as part of the role.

Duties and Accountabilities

  • Support the Head of Distirbution & Digital Trading with all activities in relation to AEGIS London’s Distribution plan and strategy, and be accountable for its delivery.
  • Deputise in managing the day-to-day operations of the Distribution Function.
  • Work with the Head of Distribution & Digital Trading to develop the AEGIS “message”, and coordinate the training of all underwriters on its delivery.
  • Develop and manage productive relationships with brokers and coverholders across all classes of business, in order to promote distribution opportunities and initiatives.
  • Identify relevant individuals within broking and coverholders and facilitate meetings to explore potential distribution opportunities for the Company, both within the UK, US and internationally.
  • Assess whether these opportunities are in line with AEGIS’ appetite and, if so, manage the distribution opportunity to its completion, with the relevant underwriting division.
  • Collaborate effectively with the Data Science & Analytics team to analyse relevant data, create KPI’s and dashboards, in order to produce meaningful insight for the underwriters and other relevant divisions.
  • Track and evaluate all existing distribution opportunities to ensure they remain in line with expectations.
  • Maintain notes and records of meetings, negotiations and agreements.
  • Develop and manage contractual details to a high standard through to completion.
  • Undertake, support with and/or lead on other ad hoc tasks or projects as they arise.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

  • Have experience and relevant understanding of the Lloyd’s specialty insurance market, particularly within a business development or distribution function.
  • Have excellent attention to detail. Be comfortable analysing and leveraging data in order to provide meaningful insight and make key decisions. May have experience working with AI (desirable but not essential)
  • Have experience in the detail of negotiation and contract arrangements.
  • Be self-motivated, proactive, and comfortable taking personal accountability; able to work effectively both independently and collaboratively as part of a high-performing team.
  • Have strong project management and organisational skills in order shape and drive the strategy.
  • Have excellent written and verbal communication; be able negotiate effectively, and create and develop strong internal and external relationships across various divisions.
  • Be confident when dealing with ambiguity, knowing when to shift focus and priorities to ensure a successful outcome.
  • Have a good external network and be able to utilise those contacts for the benefit of AEGIS London.
