Background
The College of Arts and Law Marketing Team works to recruit students and promote the research in the College. The College includes: Birmingham Law School; School of History and Cultures; School of English, Drama and Creative Studies; School of Languages, Cultures, Art History and Music; School of Philosophy, Theology and Religion.
The role would be to help recruit postgraduate taught and postgraduate research students. Our main Postgraduate Open Days are on Saturday 15 November, Wednesday 18 March and Saturday 27 June. There will also be online webinars in January and May.
Role Summary
The College of Arts and Law Postgraduate Student Ambassador is a key support role for the College. We are looking for current Postgraduates to join us as Student Ambassadors to support student recruitment and marketing activity for the College. Ambassadors are employed to support activities and offer advice and knowledge to future students. Ambassadors may be involved in activities including delivering presentations to large audiences, leading campus tours and helping with online webinars. All Ambassadors are also expected to make themselves available for the University’s Postgraduate Open Days held in November, March and June
Ambassadors may also be involved with creating engaging content for the University website, prospectus and College social media. This could include student profiles, blogs and videos.
The role involves supporting the College Marketing and Communications team in marketing initiatives to encourage prospective students to apply to Birmingham and offer holders to accept their offers.
The role may cover working across a wide variety of platforms and activities including Unibuddy, Zoom webinars, phone calls and videos.
The position does not guarantee regular hours per week. The hours will be ad hoc. Working hours are variable depending on the number of positions available and what shifts are assigned (notified in advance) and on an Ambassador’s availability around studies. Most activities will take place Monday to Friday however activity may also take place during University vacation as well as over the weekends (Open Days on Saturdays).
Main Duties
You will be managed by a member of the College Marketing and Communications team who will direct your work and priorities. Types of activity may include:
Working during the main University Postgraduate Open Days in November, March and June. This is likely to be activities such as being on the subject stands, delivering a presentation on your experience as a student and directing prospective students.
Leading campus tours
Preparing and delivering presentations and participating in online webinars
Becoming a UniBuddy representative answering questions online from prospective student enquirers about your experience of Birmingham
Writing interesting blog posts from a student perspective. Topics will be provided to coincide with key events throughout the year plus opportunities to create personal content related to student life
Person Specification
- Current Postgraduate student studying a College of Arts and Law subject
- Enthusiasm for the University, the College and your area of study
- A good knowledge (or willingness to gain knowledge) of the University, campus and its student support services
- A good level of English language is required in both written and verbal communication
- Customer service skills including the ability to stay calm, friendly and helpful when interacting with people and under pressure
- Evidence of showing diplomacy and initiative to deal with a variety of people and situations
- A professional approach to work is required, as well as being able to represent the University and its brand consistently and appropriately
- Reliable, punctual, organised and conscientious
- The ability to take initiative and resolve problems when needed
- Confident and comfortable appearing on camera (where applicable)
