Job purpose:  

Procurement Finance is a diverse global team working to drive the expansive cost and cash agenda for Unilever. The role will be part of the Global Procurement Finance organization, a global team consisting of over 60 members across the globe. The role specifically sits in Power of 1 Under Commodity Risk Management (CRM). The CRM Finance is an integral and crucial part of the Procurement Finance function and offers a unique role integrating Partnering, Controlling & Expertise all blended into one. We are looking for ambitious and high caliber candidates to join Unilever CRM team as the Assistant Finance Manager. Unilever CRM team has embarked upon an ambitious journey to take CRM to the next level which not only includes expanding CRM scope in next few years but also re-imagining Commodity Hedging Strategies in the light of very high commodity volatility in last few years. She/he will play pivotal role in navigating this journey together with CRM team and wider stakeholders in Unilever. This is quite a broad-based role spanning from partnering the CRM to take right positions for the market, actively supporting the expansion agenda, bringing the right performance Management of the CRM team, assessing commercial viability of instruments (physical or financial or types), application of Hedge Accounting for each type of instruments, regulatory compliance of all hedging activities, designing future fit processes and systems.

This role offers an exciting opportunity to work closely with subject matter experts in Unilever, providing good exposure to both strategic thinking and operational processes, hedge accounting, risk management & controls, and change and performance management.

Responsibilities:

  • Effectively partner with Commodity Traders, Procurement buyers and Global Supply chain teams internally across Unilever, to drive CRM growth agenda.

  • Partner with internal and external auditors to ensure adherence to IFRS 9 hedge accounting principles and Unilever’s compliance framework, with a focus on governance, designation documentation, and audit trail integrity. Establish a governance model to monitor and communicate business risks stemming from compliance and other regulatory requirements.

  • Design future fit processes and systems to support CRM in the journey to adopt high performance digitized technology infrastructure to enable effective decision making.

  • Support the Unilever Procurement team in execution of strategic CRM initiatives, drive accelerated value creation, minimize costs volatility, and build internal capabilities to support business requirements.

  • Act as a Centre of Excellence for Unilever’s CRM policy and IFRS 9 hedge accounting standards, focusing on designation strategy, effectiveness testing, and regulatory compliance. Collaborate with the central finance team for accounting execution and reporting.

  • Drive controls enhancement and continuous improvement in CRM operations by embedding proactive risk management, audit trail completeness, and exception reporting mechanisms in line with IFRS 9 and Unilever’s compliance programme.

  • Support CRM transformation agenda including smooth implementation of a new CRM IT system, reporting dashboards and analytics capabilities to deliver process simplifications, enhancement to controls and compliance with lower running costs.

  • Develop in depth understanding of factors impacting global commodity prices including Macro Economic Environment, geo-political factors, regulatory environment to give the right insight to the business.

  • Support the periodic compliance reviews by ensuring completeness of hedge documentation, alignment with Pricing Horizon (PH) policies, and readiness for audit walkthroughs. Collaborate with Middle Office and Back Office teams to resolve trade entry discrepancies and maintain KPI reporting integrity. 

What we are looking for:  

  • At least 2 years of relevant financial experience in areas like Financial Markets, Financial and Management Accounting, Business partnering, Supply Chain Finance, Controllers, Treasury Especially focused on Commodity Hedging and risk mitigation strategies.  

  • Understanding of commodity markets, concepts, curious to remain updated on economic macrofundamentals , news and accounting developments.

  • Demonstrated ability to thrive in complex and dynamic environments, including unstructured settings where agility and proactive problem-solving are key.

  • Exceptional business partnering and stakeholder engagement skills, with a proven ability to influence cross-functional teams and drive Teams to common conclusive outcomes.

  • Highly analytical, with passion in value-adding results consistently with actionable and analytical insights.

  • Advanced MS Excel skills are critical, with passion to learn and develop advanced models and workings. Strong PowerPoint skills with flare to adapt to new tools and software. Readiness to develop a deep understanding of Unilever P&L and management accounting principles.

  • Ability to identify and create opportunities for continuous improvement, challenge status quo. Eager to learn, from variety of sources structured and nonstructured.

  • A sharp and evolving understanding of business; Ability to clearly contextualize the bigger picture down to granular details. Always doing what is “right” for the business and people.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, able to build trust and effective working relationships across all levels of the organization.
