Job Summary:
This is an entry-level position involving food preparation and/or food serving. Under general supervision, the Food Service Worker provides support in all areas of food services and assists with general cleaning. It is expected that this professional will follow food safety and sanitation guidelines and assist in the service of food in a courteous manner keeping particular attention to the specific dietary and texture needs of the participants they serve.  

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Ensure proper dietary restrictions are followed for each participant in accordance with instructions from Registered Dietitians.
  • Communicates clearly with Chef and Lead Cook potential allergens and texture sensitive meals needed daily, at respective site.
  • Serves participants in a professional and courteous manner and help assist CNA with serving daily meals.

  • Maintains a clean and presentable appearance consistent with food safety regulations and PACE Foodservice Uniform Policy.

  • Responsible for ensuring all deliveries that leave the kitchen, including Savory Fare meal deliveries, are checked against delivery protocols to ensure accuracy.

  • Demonstrates proper understanding of cleaning and sanitizing food contact areas.

  • Monitors and maintains required temperature logs.  

  • Has complete understanding of setting up and breaking down the front of house set up before and after meals to include silverware rollups and place settings.

  • Maintains a stocked, organized, and clean supply cabinets in front of house.

  • Follows procedures for safe food preparation, assembly, and presentation.

  • Helps problem solve food issues and kitchen problems in an accurate and timely manner

  • Takes initiative to complete other tasks once daily duties are fulfilled.  Assist Chef with any catering setups that may be needed.

  • Displays proper knowledge of PACE take home meal policy and ensures the participants on that daily list receive their meals.

  • Displays awareness and follows diet orders of all special dietary needs, special textures, allergies, and requirements of the day center participants.

  • Maintains an appropriate inventory and outlines low stock items for purchase without large cost overruns or running out of key items.

  • May be required to cover absences within the food service program as necessary and as assigned by Food Service Manager within scope of skillset and ability.

  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned.

Ability to read, write and comprehend English
Ability to maintain sound judgement under stress and communicate effectively 
Provide participants with information regarding ingredients and food preparation
Comply with relevant safety hygiene, serving standards and procedures
Proficient understanding of food allergies and modified diets
Understanding of HAACP requirements

Education Requirements:
High School Diploma or Equivalent, Required

Physical Requirements:
Physical ability to regularly stoop, bend, kneel, lift, stand, walk, stretch, and reach for extended periods of time. 
Must be able to regularly lift objects up to 25 pounds and at times up to 35 pounds.
Must be able to navigate various departments of the organization's physical premises as well as related community care settings.
Must be able to tolerate conditions typically associated within a kitchen setting.

Experience:
1 year of related kitchen experience, Preferred
1 year of experience working with a frail or elderly population, Preferred

License & Certification Requirements:
RI Food Safety Manager License, Site-Specific Requirement
