The Role
We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Ocean Cargo Underwriter with experience in Ocean Cargo, Stock Throughput underwriting. The ideal candidate will be responsible for evaluating and underwriting ocean cargo risks, developing broker relationships, and contributing to the profitable growth of our marine portfolio.
Responsibilities will Include
- Evaluate and underwrite new and renewal ocean cargo business in accordance with company guidelines and risk appetite.
- Analyze risk exposures, loss history, and coverage needs to determine appropriate pricing and terms.
- Collaborate with brokers, agents, and internal stakeholders to develop tailored insurance solutions.
- Monitor portfolio performance and contribute to profitability through sound underwriting decisions.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of market trends, regulatory changes, and competitor activity.
- Support the development of underwriting strategies and product enhancements.
- Ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulations.
Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Insurance, Risk Management, or a related field.
- 2–5 years of experience in ocean cargo underwriting.
- Strong knowledge of international trade, Incoterms, and marine insurance principles.
- Proficiency in underwriting tools and systems.
- Excellent analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Professional designations (e.g., CPCU, AMIM) are a plus.
Salary Range: $100,000 - $150,000
