As our Assay Lab Technician, you will perform laboratory tests to determine chemical and physical characteristics materials at Greens Creek mine site. Every day you will work at the mine on a remote island about 18 miles outside of Juneau, Alaska. You’ll start everyday planning and prioritizing work activities, using time efficiently and effectively. You will be called upon to maintain assay lab equipment and trouble shoot minor problems. To thrive in this role, you must recognize and resolve discrepancies in testing results when reporting assays. We’re on a remote island, you must know how to work independently.

The Greens Creek Mine, located on Admiralty Island 18 miles south of Juneau, is an underground polymetallic mine operating since 1989, employing approximately 500 people. The mine is owned and operated by Hecla Mining Company, headquartered in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Established in 1891, Hecla has a rich history as a distinguished and respected precious metals producer. Here’s what you can expect in this role:
- Training first. Every hire is provided MSHA training in the first 4 days on the job. We also provide department-level training on not just what to do, but safety, as well.
- You will apply your basic math and computer skills to transmit results within designated deadlines.
- You will comply with all QA/QC processes while working in around the clock wet and fire assay laboratory.
- This position is primarily night shift; however, occasional day shifts may be required for training or coverage needs.
- Working on a remote island and living in a mining camp environment away from home. Every department is slightly different, but our process department works 14 days for 11 to 12.5 hours each, followed by 14 days off.
- Safety is important. Every piece of equipment and each work area must be inspected before we start the day for your safety and the safety of your team.
