RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Treats individuals with respect and courtesy.
2. Answers patient calls and reports requests to the appropriate nurse promptly.
3. Demonstrates care, compassion, and concern for patients and family members others.
4. Reports problems and changes in the patient’s condition throughout the shift.
5. Collaborates with others on the multidisciplinary team, as appropriate, to meet the patient and family’s needs.
6. Documents accurately and appropriately the nursing care delivered.
7. Orients patients and family to the hospital during the admission process.
8. Transports and transfers patients as requested.
9. Assists the patient with activities of daily living, as needed.
10. Performs procedures such as vital signs, weight, I & O, urine for sugar and acetone, specimen collection, nonsterile compresses, enemas, postmortem care, discharge and transfer accurately then documents, appropriatly.
11. Observes hospital infection control and safety regulations to protect self and patients including standard precautions, personal protective equipment use, wheelchair and stretcher precautions, fall reduction program, restraint use, and patient identification, etc.
12. Respects the right of patients to beliefs and opinions that may be different from own.
13. Reinforces patient and family education following initiation and direction by the registered nurse.
14. Provides appropriate patient care in relation to the age of the patient.
15. Assist with order entry and information systems as requested.
16. Upon completion of classroom instruction and verification of competency may perform the following NA II tasks; insertion and maintenance of indwelling urinary catheter, O2 therapy set up and monitoring, wound care dressing changes and irrigation, peripheral IV site care and discontinuation of IV site.
17. Upon completion of classroom instruction and verification of competency may perform glucometer checks on patients under the direction of an RN.
18. Maintains a clean, uncluttered environment by changing linens, emptying trash as needed, completing cleaning assignments, keeping halls clear of equipment.
19. Accepts assignments willingly and completes conscientiously.
