JOB TITLE: Sorter 

LOCATION: Recycle Yard

FLSA EMPLOYMENT CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt


 

POSITION SUMMARY

The Sorter is responsible for sorting materials such as organic material and general debris in the recycling yard and rubble yard.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to the following:

 

  • Manually sort and segregate recoverable material by hand from moving conveyor and from material piled on the tipping floor.
  • Empty sorted material containers as needed.
  • Assist in rubble yard sort line and on floor as needed.
  • Assist coworkers as needed with heavy or bulky items.
  • Maintain a clean work area.
  • Attend weekly safety meetings.
  • Ability to adhere to work schedule.
  • Must be flexible to work early and late hours depending on workload.
  • Completes special projects as may be assigned and prioritized by the on-site manager.
  • Comply with OSHA regulations when using hazardous chemicals on company premises; comply with company safety regulations.
  • Perform duties in a safe manner in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations and company policies
  • Perform other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Must be capable of learning specific sorting and material handling procedures.
  • Demonstrates a full understanding of applicable policies, procedures and work methods associated with assigned duties.
  • Ability to stand for eight plus hours per day.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to communicate and understand instructions.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be dependable, self-motivated individual.

 

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

 

  • Education not required
  • 6 months of relevant work experience

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud and dirty. Required to put on protective outfits, like gloves, safety footwear, safety eyeglasses, earplugs, and hardhat.
