About the Department
Under minimal supervision, performs highly responsible specialized duties for an administrative officer; exercising discretion and independent judgment in interpreting College policies, procedures, and practices, as it relates to Workforce Services.
Position Duties
Essential Responsibilities:
A. Provides career guidance and facilitates career planning. Facilitates the development of Individual Service Strategies (ISS); maintains, monitors, and updates plans as necessary. Provides WIOA guidance and counseling to target groups regarding admissions procedures for secondary schools and/or postsecondary admissions, financial aid, personal and educational issues as well as plans for employment, the military, vocational training, and apprenticeships.
B. Conducts community outreach regularly and acts as a liaison and consultant to community agencies, groups, and schools. Coordinates a rotating high school schedule and maintains regular visits to high schools to recruit students and work with program participants. Makes presentations to prospective students, instructors, counselors, and community groups explaining and discussing the Young Adult Program and its services.
C. Designs and develops strategies and programming to achieve the program objectives including designing vocational and academic instruction, career exploration and financial literacy instruction. Carries out assignments relative to work-based learning experiences and tours for participants. Assigns youth to the Workplace Excellence curriculum. Maintains records of academic information on participants, including grades, ISS, or other related academic progress characteristics.
D. Establishes and maintains an effective filing system of all project data and work area information and an accurate inventory of all equipment and materials.
E. Performs customer service duties; answers telephone, greets visitors, arranges appointments, and directs telephone and personal callers to proper parties.
F. Attends professional meetings, conferences, and workshops related to Young Adult Program services as approved by the Workforce Services Director.
G. Contributes to writing the Young Adult Program grant with the assistance of the Workforce Services Director.
Minimum Qualifications
A. Bachelor’s degree required in education administration, special education administration, student personnel, counseling, or a related area.
B. At least three to seven years of related work experience preferred.
C. Prior experience working with underrepresented student populations and federal or state grant programs particularly for disadvantaged students preferred.
D. Work experience with data processing systems and data report preparation highly desirable.
E. Candidates with similar cultural and academic backgrounds to target populations preferred.
F. Qualified candidate must be functionally literate in reading, writing, and computation skills as well as computer literate or willing to learn.
Other Qualifications
Hiring range: $21.13/hr. min. - $23.78/hr. 1st quartile - $26.42/hr. mid.
