Why Your Role Matters

As the Director of Youth and Family, you will lead the YMCA’s efforts to create engaging and enriching experiences for kids and families. You’ll oversee a diverse portfolio of programs, including Kids Play, gymnastics, dance, arts, and more, while supporting and inspiring the team who deliver them. In this role, you’ll ensure that every program sparks curiosity, builds confidence, and strengthens connections, creating meaningful experiences that leave a lasting impact on participants and the community.

 

How You Will Make an Impact

The member relations aspect of this position requires that relationship building be a top priority at all times, attending to the needs and requests of members, program participants, volunteers, and all people associated with the YMCA in a courteous and friendly manner.

  • Holds the team accountable for high achievement to ensure a transformative YMCA experience and meet organizational objectives.
  • Delivers and oversees high-quality programs while ensuring excellent customer service.
  • Models inclusive leadership behaviors and embraces all dimensions of diversity, building strong teams that leverage their diverse skills and perspectives to advance the mission.
  • Hires, coaches, and manages all direct reports, ensuring alignment with the association’s people practices for all positions within their organizational structure.
  • Promotes and implements a goal-based management approach, ensuring all team members actively support center-level objectives.
  • Models and enforces alignment with association policies and safety protocols, with a special focus on child safety procedures.
  • Monitors and updates all required staff certifications.
  • Promotes and incorporates YMCA values and attributes in all aspects of work.
  • Guides, directs, and oversees current Youth and Family programs while creating new year-round outdoor programs, establishing operating standards and program objectives to ensure quality, participant satisfaction, and member growth.
  • Assists with coordination and recruitment for outdoor day camps.
  • Supports direct marketing and promotion of programs to achieve established objectives.
  • Develops and maintains maintenance programs and procedures for facilities and equipment.
  • Maintains accurate records for all program responsibilities, including registrations and program statistics.
  • Designs programs that appeal to a diverse demographic, including a range of ages, genders, socio-economic backgrounds, ethnicities, and races.
  • Builds and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations to increase YMCA visibility.
  • Develops and monitors program budgets to meet fiscal objectives, including adherence to approved budgets, achieving income goals, controlling expenses, and delivering strong financial results.
  • Coordinates the use of center facilities for program activities and events, collaborating with maintenance, sports, fitness, aquatics, and membership teams to ensure smooth operations.
  • Participates in fundraising events and activities, including securing donations for initiatives such as the Annual Campaign.
  • Serves as the sports liaison for Association Youth Sports and collaborates closely with Regional Directors.
  • Assists with strategic Impact Group meetings.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

What You Bring to the Y

  • 2-3 years of experience supervising, coaching, and developing staff.
  • Experience in managing youth and family programs, including oversight of diverse program portfolios.
  • Demonstrated success in program development, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Experience managing budgets and resources effectively.
  • Familiarity with community engagement and family-centered programming.
  • Experience with creating, implementing, and evaluating Youth and Family Programming and events,
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, Word, and Outlook.
