Position Summary 

Oversee and coordinate all aspects of shipping, receiving, respool, warehouse utilization and packaging activities in a safe and effective manner. Provide support to Manufacturing, Quality, Sales, Planning and Procurement.  Manage and supervise Logistics personnel.

 

Essential Functions

  • Supervise inbound and outbound transportation, generate shipping documents, and schedule carriers.
  • Determine the most effective mode, price, and routing of materials into company facility and routing products to the customer.
  • Ensure costs are minimized and correctly shipped first time.
  • Establish relationships with trucking companies for booking loads, transporting cable and wire products while providing the highest standard of service to our customers.
  • Maintain relationships with common and contract carriers.
  • Measure carrier dependability and ensure elimination of deficiencies. 
  • Maintain control of emergency shipments and special delivery requests.
  • Effectively direct, supervise and motivate assigned employees. 
    • Maintain a safe work environment and ensure safety standards for employees including OSHA, ISO, and DOT procedures.
    • Optimize warehouse, final packaging and finished goods area for maximum efficiency.  Determines space requirements for product put away and material identification. 
    • Support 5S, process improvement in the department.
    • Support and utilize new technology and systems to enhance the production planning and shipping process.
  • Arranges for pickup of scrap metal and trash/waste of facility. 
  • Always communicates with customers and employees in a professional manner. 
  • Obey all safety rules, use caution in work activities, and continuously practice safe behaviors.
  • Immediately report unsafe conditions/behaviors and work-related injuries to site supervision.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • Associate’s Degree and/or related experience
  • Knowledge of a variety of domestic and international carriers 
  • Must be able to obtain or be certified as a Forklift Trainer
  • 5 years’ relevant experience in manufacturing environment 
  • 3-5 years supervisory experience, in transportation or Logistics preferred
  • Excellent Microsoft Office (Excel & Word) Skills and ability to utilize AS400 application, preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Knowledge of handling freight products expeditiously to and from the plant
  • A thorough knowledge of loading, routing, dispatching, and bills of lading
  • Knowledge of export regulations and ability to implement and institute cost efficient options
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes and handling of materials for operation of plant
  • Possess organizational skills
  • Attention to detail necessary
  • Ability to work in a team environment and fosters communication
  • Self-motivated problem solver
  • Ability to work under pressure of time and resource constraints
  • Respond to shifting priorities in a cooperative manner 
  • Accurately performs multiple operational tasks assigned within the facility
  • Strong commitment and focus on customer service and quality focused on customer focused and ensure that all orders and inquiries are responded to with professionalism.
  • Strong knowledge using the D365 information system

Physical Demand

  • Ability to stand and/or move throughout the plant
  • Works in office environment as well with periods of sitting
  • Required to talk, hear and demonstrate manual hand and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination to handle machinery, materials, and parts
  • Able to lift, carry, relocate, move a minimum of 50 lbs of objects, materials, and/or product
  • Operate a personal computer on daily basis, and other office equipment as needed
  • Regular attendance and ability to work in excess of a 40-hour work week if necessary
