Berry Corporation (bry) has an opening for an Intern – Applications Developer in our Bakersfield, California office, who will work within the IT and software development teams to build foundational skills in application development and software lifecycle management. This is a project-based internship reporting to the IT Manager, designed to provide exposure to real-world software development practices, tools, and collaborative workflows. The intern will work full-time Monday through Thursday (9 hours) and every other Friday (4 hours) from May through August. Key Accountabilities
- Learn and apply basic principles of software development and lifecycle management.
- Assist in gathering and documenting business and technical requirements.
- Participate in the design and development of simple software components or integrations under guidance.
- Support testing and debugging of software applications.
- Shadow experienced developers to understand deployment and version control practices.
- Study and interpret technical documentation and software specifications.
- Collaborate with team members to understand database concepts and application architecture.
- Observe and assist with performance tuning and troubleshooting tasks.
- Complies with all the Company’s Safety and Environmental policies, practices, and programs.
- Participate in training programs to enhance technical, and HSE knowledge, safety standards, and job performance.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education, Certificates, Licenses
Currently pursuing an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field from an accredited institution.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Critical
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Time management and prioritization skills.
- Basic communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving aptitude.
Required
- Basic understanding of object-oriented programming concepts.
- Familiarity with SQL and relational databases.
- Exposure to software development tools such as Visual Studio or similar IDEs.
- Ability to locate and read technical software product documentation with good comprehension to generate correct technical solutions.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Desired
- Awareness of MVC frameworks and web technologies (HTML/CSS, JavaScript).
- Interest in learning about software integrations and automation.
- Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git or Subversion).
- Exposure to Oracle EBS or similar enterprise systems.
- Exposure to Data warehouse design and concepts.
- Exposure to AI/LLM, and automation tools and concepts.
- Exposure to formal testing methodologies, and ability to guide and assist users in User Acceptance Testing
- Exposure to configuring, administering, and/or integrating with "Software as a Service", aka cloud-hosted software/applications.
Work Environment
- Primarily office work environment.
- Routine work involves common office activities during a typical 9-hour day such as standing, sitting, walking, typing, and twisting as necessary.
- May be required to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
- Must follow all company safety policies, including when visiting field locations.
