POSITION SUMMARY:

Directs all aspects of membership for the branch including recruitment of new members, retention of existing members and supervision of assigned staff. Develops, plans and implements new procedures and methods to achieve strategic goals. In addition, every position in the YMCA of East Tennessee is responsible for upholding the Judeo-Christian principles that are central to our mission by modeling behaviors that exemplify the Y’s core values - caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.


CORE FUNCTIONS:

1. Implements membership strategies that support recruitment of new members and retention of existing members. Creates a member-focused culture and models’ relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions. Fosters a climate of innovation and resolves problems to ensure member satisfaction.

2. Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs personnel and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.

3. Promotes program and membership enrollment through interactions with existing and potential members. Coordinates program registration, including logistics to support phone, walk-in and web registration. Coordinates with marketing efforts to maximize enrollments and provides ongoing support to Program Directors on related issues.

4. Proficient in DAXKO Operations, Accounting and Engage. Able to train staff on processes including but not limited to; input members and programs, collections, terminations, deposits and receipting in accordance with Y policies for handling sensitive information. 

5. Works with V/P of Membership and Corporate Membership Director to secure corporate memberships.

6. Participates in the planning of the annual budget; manages and implements the approved budget for membership and takes appropriate action to correct variances.

7. Ensures proper implementation of front desk procedures. Reviews and updates desk procedures and communicates changes to staff. 

8. Organizes membership events at the Y and represents the Y at community events to promote the Y. Pursue new corporate membership partnership.

9. Follows all Y policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.

10. Other duties may be assigned.

Requirements

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Directly or indirectly manages and supervise all employees in the Membership department. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees. Planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and conflict resolution. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluations of these units. Monitors daily operation to adhere to all Y health and safety standards and policies. 


QUALIFICATIONS:

Individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below represent the knowledge, skill, and /or ability required. 


EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent. One to two years previous supervisory experience in customer service preferred. Excellent personal computer skills and experience with standard business software. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community. YMCA Team Leader or higher certification preferred. 


REASONING ABILITIY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or scheduled form. 


WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties, employee is regularly exposed to noise levels in the moderate range; must be able to perform within this environment.


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume and distance.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Frequently required to talk or hear. Occasionally required to stand, walk, sit and use hands and fingers. Employee may occasionally be required to lift 50 pounds. Vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, color and peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. 


LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of members or employees of the organization.

New Employee Orientation; required to start work, provided by the Y.


Additional training, licenses, and courses may be required throughout employment.
