POSITION REPORTS TO:   Cadet Coordinator-Training Sergeant
POSITIONS SUPERVISED:  None
BLS COMPARABLE: 43-5071, Shipping, Receiving, and Inventory Clerk, and 13-1151, Training and Development Specialist

LEADERSHIP: Provides co-worker leadership to trainees and co-workers through motivation, team building and providing feedback.  

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Must be 18 years of Age
  • Subject to post offer, pre-employment drug screen.
  • Subject to a pre-employment criminal background check and pre-employment polygraph.  Felony or violent offense convictions will disqualify.
  • Proficient Word and Excel skills required.
  • Keyboarding skill of 34 wpm.
  • Subject to signing a confidentiality agreement.
  • English proficiency required.
POSITION PURPOSE: To promote positive public perception, governmental transparency and by supporting the training division in the education of officers and members of the public.  


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES
  • Design, implement, schedule and deliver educational programs for members of the public on topics such as personal safety, crime prevention, emergency response and community engagement.
  • Develop and facilitate training sessions for police officers which meet the standards of federal, state, local and the Council on Law Enforcement Education and Training (CLEET) training requirements.  Support the department's goals to provide continuing education and training for the professional growth and development of its members.
  • Ensure compliance with CLEET rules and regulations concerning law enforcement training.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records of all equipment, including firearms, uniforms, protective gear, vehicles, communication devices, and office supplies. Conduct regular inventory checks to ensure all items are accounted for and in serviceable condition.
  • Identify needs for equipment and supplies, manage the procurement process, including sourcing vendors, negotiating contracts, and ensuring purchases comply with departmental and municipal regulations.
  • Issue equipment and supplies to officers and staff, ensuring that each individual receives the appropriate gear based on their role, size, and requirements. Manage the process for returning, exchanging, or repairing items.
  • Coordinate the maintenance and repair of departmental equipment. Works with external service providers for specialized equipment maintenance or coordinating in-house repairs.

  • Effective working relationships with co-workers and members of the public.
  • Public trust, knowledge and safety are enhanced through training events.
  • Stored equipment is properly inventoried and supplies are sufficiently maintained. 
  • State-mandated training is current and within compliance.; and accurate records are kept and maintained.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: 
Associates degree or high school diploma with three years of related experience in teaching, logistics and law enforcement.

CERTIFICATES/LICENSES:
CLEET (Council on Law Enforcement Education and Training instructor certification or equivalent which would qualify for a CLEET waiver is preferred,  but not required.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE:
Communication:  Knowledge of communication methods and techniques.  This includes alternative ways to inform via written, oral or visual media.
English Language: Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition and grammar.
Critical Thinking: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.  Must have analytical ability and problem-solving skills.  

SKILLS/ABILITIES:
  • Basic understanding of law enforcement practices, procedures and the ability to effectively transfer this knowledge to others. 
  • Excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to communicate with and instruct diverse groups with varying levels of experience.
  • Operational knowledge of CLEET rules and compliance policies. 
  • Strong typing and computer applications skills.
  • Organized, accurate and attention to detail.
  • Handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to assist and support others.
  • Ability to operate telephone, PC, copies, and other basic business machines.  
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to speak effectively in front of large groups.
   PHYSICAL & MENTAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS 

FINGER DEXTERITY: 
Manual dexterity sufficient to work with the fingers.

VISUAL ABILITIES: 
Normal vision, with or without corrective lenses. Must be able to distinguish colors.

PHYSICAL STRENGTH:     
Exerts up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally. Light physical activity performing non-strenuous daily activities of an administrative nature.

LANGUAGE/COMPREHENSION:   
Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to write information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral diagram, or schedule form.

MATHEMATICS ABILITY:  
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rates, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

WORK SCHEDULE/HOURS   
Regular – 8-hour shift, typically 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday - Friday.
Other– Attendance at after-hours functions periodically required.

WORK CONDITIONS
Well-lighted, heated and/or air-conditioned indoor office setting with adequate ventilation.

Noise level    
Moderate noise (examples: business office with computers and printers, light traffic).

Other work conditions
Occasional travel to off-site locations.
