Job Summary:
The Materials Manager is responsible for overseeing the planning, procurement, storage, control, and distribution of materials and supplies to ensure the company’s production and operational needs are met efficiently. This role manages inventory levels, supplier relationships, and material flow to optimize costs, minimize shortages, and support business goals.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and implement material management strategies to support production schedules and operational needs.
Oversee purchasing, inventory control, receiving, and distribution of materials.
Maintain accurate inventory levels and ensure materials are available when needed without overstocking.
Negotiate with vendors and suppliers to secure cost-effective pricing, favorable terms, and reliable delivery.
Collaborate with production, engineering, and operations teams to forecast material requirements.
Monitor supplier performance and resolve issues related to quality, delays, or shortages.
Implement inventory tracking systems and ensure compliance with company policies and safety regulations.
Analyze material usage, costs, and trends to identify areas for efficiency and savings.
Supervise and develop materials management staff, providing leadership and training as needed.
Ensure compliance with environmental, safety, and regulatory requirements related to materials handling and storage.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Logistics, or a related field (preferred).
Proven experience in materials management, inventory control, or supply chain (typically 3–5+ years).
Strong knowledge of procurement processes, inventory systems, and logistics.
Excellent negotiation, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Proficiency in ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
Ability to lead a team, manage multiple priorities, and work under deadlines.
