TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Length of position: 189 days
Time: Part-time
Hours: Fridays 1:00 PM - 10:00 PM & Sundays 10:00 AM - 8:00 PM
(Sometimes Thursdays or Mondays)
SUMMARY
Provides for the overall supervision of students during home-going activities. Assists the driver with ensuring safe, comfortable transportation services and oversees the safety of students while loading, riding and disembarking the vehicle. Works under moderate supervision with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Ensures appropriate supervision of students during home-going travel
- Ensures that all chaperones are appropriately supervising students and reassigns staff to seats where they can most effectively supervise students
- Manages student behaviors through correct use of communication, discipline, and implementation of appropriate behavior programs
- Documents information related to student behaviors and relays information to Supervisor of Residential Programs and Home-going Travel Coordinators when appropriate
- Reviews students’ individual programs with Supervisor of Residential Programs and Home-going Transportation Coordinator as they relate to travel if needed
- Reviews and maintains documentation related to travel
- Perform a student head count before leaving campus and each travel stop
- Ensures that all students receive their medications on time
- Responds appropriately to emergencies, and notifies Home-going Transportation Coordinator
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
- High School diploma or equivalent
- One year experience in child or special needs population care; OR two years of coursework related to child growth, development, psychology, care education or similar area; OR Bachelor degree
- Sign Language: The ultimate required proficiency level for the position using the levels designated in the Signed Language Proficiency Interview (SLPI) is ADVANCED. If hired with a sign language proficiency level below this level, you are required to participate in signed communication learning opportunities on a regular basis until you have achieved the sign language proficiency level assigned to your position.
QUALIFICATIONS DESIRED
- Post secondary training in counseling, psychology, child development, or education
- Experience at a residential school for the deaf or another residential childcare facility
- Experience in teaching and caring for children and youth with and without disabilities
- Proficient sign communications skills
