Hitachi Rail currently has a vacancy for a Senior Commercial Manager based in London.
As a Senior Commercial Manager you will have direct responsibility for all commercial matters on designated Bids and/or Projects. The role is central to the commercial success of the business.
The role holder will be a proactive and integral member of the team to ensure that the commercial objectives of the business are achieved, including the management of risks, liabilities and opportunities.
This is a hybrid role, where our minimum expectation is two days per week on-site.
Key Responsibilities:
Your responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
- Preparing and executing the commercial strategy for the overall bid and/or project and individual matters
- Building a network of internal and external stakeholders and maintaining collaborative relationships
- Management of claims and variations
- Provide proactive advice
- Troubleshoot issues and work closely with stakeholders to follow through on remediation
- Ensure that contemporaneous records are accurate, up-to-date and maintained in order to support contractual claims that may arise. This includes an extensive and detailed record of all data and documents associated with the contract and to ensure contract compliance, including the provision of internal contract audits
- Provide guidance on terms and conditions for the benefit of the project team or for a bid team to ensure the requirements are understood
- Produce, negotiate and settle contractual claims for time and/or money
- Lead the management of disputes arising with customers in conjunction with the Legal function and proactively manage claims to try and prevent disputes. Where disputes arise, proactively manage responses and advise business partners of contractual position and risks
Technical Skills and Experience
- Experience required in managing claims and/or disputes
- Knowledge of complex contracts is essential and preferably some knowledge of NEC
- Significant experience in customer negotiations and creating and presenting commercial strategies
- Work with the functions to assess the risks and opportunities within a tender and put in place actions to manage each
- Understand the commercial landscape to support the creation of and execution of a commercial strategy
- Identify, manage and mitigate commercial risk
Human Skills
- Able to work autonomously and with strong initiative
- Confident to represent Hitachi Rail at all levels of seniority
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
- Proactive, approachable and assertive
- Strong attention to detail
What to expect
This role will be open to application until Friday 19th September.
We aim to complete a two-stage interview process. Your first interview will be a technical competency based interview in the week commencing 29th September. The second stage interview will focus on behavioural competencies in the week commencing 6th October. At least one of these will be held in person at one of our London offices.
