About the Department
Under the general direction of the assigned department Administrator, or designee, support the stable operation of the District network systems. This includes installing, configuring, maintaining and optimizing network hardware, software and virtual systems while ensuring minimal downtime.
Position Duties
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Install, maintain, troubleshoot, repair or replace network hardware, software and virtual systems.
- Maintain content filtering, IPS/IDS, cloud services, operating systems, storage, backups, replication, software applications, user administration, security administration, hardware and related systems.
- Facilitate the installation and maintenance of physical cable plants and infrastructures including patch panels and wall plates and related systems.
- Respond to Help Desk calls for support. Prioritize work.
- Develop and provide training for users and other technology staff on related systems.
- Install, maintain, troubleshoot repair or replace server hardware and related components.
- Install, maintain, troubleshoot repair or replace network printing and related devices.
- Assist the assigned department Administrator, or designee, with implementing and resolving problems with networked systems.
- Perform regular maintenance including monitoring software, hardware and firmware updates.
- Monitor network systems for performance and anomalies. Respond accordingly to data observed.
- Work with and develop solutions for other department's network technology needs.
- Maintain district security practices involving passwords, email, software, hardware and related resources.
- Recommend equipment, replacement purchases and timelines.
- Maintain accurate inventory of equipment and services.
- Stay current with all IT policies, procedures and trends.
Minimum Qualifications
- Graduation from high school or equivalent; and
- Specialized training in computer operating systems, repair, local and wide-area networking, and data communications and server administration; and
- Any of the following:
- A+ Certification or equivalent;
- Three years of progressively responsible experience in the design, programming and installation of information and networking systems and hardware, preferably in an educational environment;
- Associate's degree in a related Computer Science field;
- Equivalent combination of training and experience.

Examination
The examination components consist of a qualifying written multiple-choice, performance, and oral exam. Applicants meeting the minimum qualifications will be required to take the exam and are notified via email communication of the scheduled date, time, and location. A valid picture identification is required prior to admittance.
After the exam procedure concludes for this recruitment, an eligibility list will be established to fill future vacancies. When eligibility lists include open and promotional lists of qualified persons through competitive examination, the promotional list will be used first, unless otherwise stated on this bulletin.

Work Schedule:
This position typically works full-time, 8 hours/day, 40 hours/week, and observes a 12-month work calendar.

Holidays and Leaves
There are seventeen (17) paid holidays that fall within the work year, pursuant to the District's Collective Bargaining Agreement with California Schools Employees Association Chapter 296 (CSEA).
Sick leave shall be granted in the proportion of daily hours worked. Vacation is earned at the prescribed rate as part of compensation, and does not become vested until after completion of the initial probationary period.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
This job is primarily performed in an indoor climate-controlled environment, and require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some stooping, squatting, kneeling, bending at the waist, reaching overhead and horizontally; dexterity of hand and fingers to manipulate materials, writing instruments, computer keyboard/mouse; see and hear sufficiently in normal range with or without correction; speaking for exchange of information. Potential exposures to adverse weather conditions when walking to automobile or between buildings, indoor/outdoor fumes and odors.
