Role Summary:
The Executive Director leads organizational human resources and serves as a lead on HR strategy, compensation management, labor relations, vendor management, departmental budget, and payroll operations. Serves as the departmental legal and compliance officer. The Executive Director is responsible for creating a positive impression of Human Resources and Saint Peter’s University (SPU) by focusing on excellent customer service to employees. Works collaboratively with other members of the University to appropriately serve the University.
Supervisory Responsibility:
The Executive Director leads a high-performing team focused on talent acquisition, employee engagement, compensation and benefits, payroll management, compliance, training and development, HR analytics, and organizational effectiveness.
Key Responsibilities
HR Leadership & Strategy
- Provide transformational leadership to build a customer-focused and collaborative HR function that supports the University’s mission and strategic priorities.
- Serve as a strategic advisor to university leadership, faculty, and staff on all HR- and payroll-related matters including workforce planning, change management, and organizational development.
- Develop and implement HR strategies and policies that reflect institutional values and DEIJ (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Justice) principles.
- Partner with campus leadership to align HR and payroll operations with University goals and promote continuous improvement in service delivery.
- Oversee and guide HR and Payroll staff, ensuring professional growth, accountability, and excellence in service.
Payroll Oversight
- Provide leadership and oversight of the Payroll Office to ensure accurate and timely processing of all payrolls, including faculty, staff, and student employees.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations, tax laws, and reporting requirements.
- Collaborate with Finance and Budget offices to ensure proper reconciliation of payroll data and accurate accounting entries.
- Manage payroll-related technology systems, audits, and continuous process improvements.
- Support integration of payroll data with PayCom, benefits, and retirement plans to ensure seamless operations.
Other HR Functions
Responsibilities include but are not limited to: employee relations and compliance; talent acquisition, onboarding, and orientation; compensation and benefits; performance evaluation and management; HR analytics and reporting; budget and resource management; and training and development.
Salary Range: $140,000 - $160,000

Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications:
• Master’s degree required in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
• 10+ years of progressively responsible leadership experience, preferably in higher education or a complex organization.
• Proven track record in strategic HR planning, payroll administration, organizational development, and employee relations.
• Strong knowledge of employment laws, payroll systems, HR technology, and best practices in talent management and compensation.
• SHRM-SCP, SPHR, or equivalent HR certification preferred.
Work Schedule:
Full-time; minimum of 35 hours a week; 52 weeks per year. Must be flexible to meet the needs of the University, including occasional evenings and weekends.
