I. JOB SUMMARY
The Senior Companion Program (SCP) Coordinator is responsible for the recruitment, orientation and training of volunteers in the Senior Companion program. The SCP Coordinator will build and maintain relationships with the volunteers and staff at volunteer stations and assist the RSVP/SCP Supervisor in ensuring a continuum of services for the population served.
 
II. DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
 Responsible for recruitment, selection and volunteer training.
 Assign senior companions to their clients and monitor assignments to ensure each volunteer is assigned to the appropriate station.
 Assist the RSVP/SCP Supervisor in providing updated information for volunteer records and SCP station records.
 Prepare an annual performance evaluation for each senior companion.
 Maintain effective and positive working relationships with all volunteers and affiliated community service agencies and their designated liaisons.
 Meet with the liaison from each host setting on a regular basis to discuss program operations, difficulties, strengths and volunteer assignments.
 Provide appropriate direction to senior companions and support their relationships with their clients as well as give guidance for any personal problems and situations which may arise.
 Meet regularly (both individually and in groups) with the senior companions to assess their strengths and weaknesses.
 Assist in the distribution of program mailings.
 Responsible for preparing written reports and other written documents as required.
 Assist in all fundraising efforts.
 Attend all meetings and training conferences deemed necessary by the RSVP/SCP Supervisor and/or Director of Community Programs.
 Work effectively with other staff as a team in order to enhance the program’s success.
 Demonstrate commitment to the social sector with a passion for MCHS’s mission and vision.
 Perform other duties as assigned by the RSVP/SCP Supervisor and/or Director of Community Programs.

III. BASIC COMPETENCIES
Education and Experience:
 Bachelor’s Degree preferable.
 Gerontology knowledge/expertise coupled with administrative experience required.  Must meet the State’s Moral Character standard.

Knowledge Requirements:
 Computer and software applications (Windows, MS Office, Internet applications, etc.) necessary to perform the duties of the position.
 Knowledge and/or awareness of behavior in order to determine appropriate assignment of senior companion to clients and to evaluate when changes are needed, etc.

Skills and Abilities Needed:
 Excellent interpersonal and communicative skills and flexibility.
 Ability to relate to host setting personnel in order to provide maximum cooperation and good working conditions.
 Manage time and multiple priorities; meet deadlines.
 Effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
 Ability to adapt to meet the needs of the program and the host setting.
 Establish and maintain effective working relationships with volunteers, other agencies, and the public.
 Exercise professional judgment in making decisions.
 Handle sensitive and confidential situations and documentation.
 Ability to relate to senior companions with warmth and sincerity.
 Attend agency trainings.
 Maintain a Michigan driver’s license and driving record that allows the operation of an agency or personal vehicle for agency business or to transport clients as needed.
