Position Summary
The Safe Balance Medical Assistant (MA) is responsible for facilitating the Safe Balance fall-risk screening assessment process for eligible patients. This role ensures assessments are performed accurately and in a timely manner, with all documentation and billing requirements completed. The MA proactively identifies applicable patients, coordinates with the front desk team, and performs the assessment in alignment with clinical protocols.
Duties and Responsibilities
Assessment Coordination and Completion
- Conduct Safe Balance fall-risk assessments for eligible patients
- Educate patients on the purpose and process of the Safe Balance screening.
- Ensure accurate completion and documentation of all assessment steps.
Documentation and Billing
- Document all assessment results in the electronic medical record (EMR) in accordance with company policy.
- Complete and submit billing-related information accurately to ensure proper reimbursement.
- Monitor compliance with assessment and billing protocols.
Pre-Visit Planning
- Review upcoming schedules to identify patients who meet criteria for Safe Balance screening.
- Create and distribute a daily or weekly list of applicable patients to the front desk team in advance.
- Ensure front desk team has screening forms and instructions as needed for workflow support.
Workflow & Team Communication
- Collaborate with front desk, clinical team, and providers to ensure smooth coordination of the Safe Balance screening process.
- Serve as the point person for questions or issues related to the Safe Balance assessment workflow.
- Provide feedback on process improvements to supervisors as needed.
- Stay abreast of and comply with all state and federal laws including HIPAA
- Adapt to change in positive and professional manner.
- Any and all other duties as assigned.
Education, Experience, Licenses, and Certifications
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
- Associate’s degree or higher preferred.
- Previous experience in outpatient clinical settings preferred.
