About the Role

Working under general to broad direction, the Senior Technical Officer – Microscopy and Histology is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations and maintenance of Histology, Immunohistochemistry, and Histochemistry services. This includes managing equipment, providing user training, and supporting researchers and students in the use of these facilities. The role also plays a key part in supporting microscopy and histology teaching activities within the College, particularly through the preparation and maintenance of tissue samples and slides. Additionally, the position contributes to the ongoing development and implementation of work health and safety (WHS) procedures, as well as administrative tasks such as record keeping and invoicing for the Light Microscopy Facility. The Senior Technical Officer will work closely with the Microscopy Lead Academic and other stakeholders to ensure high-quality service delivery and support.

About You

To be successful in this role you will demonstrate:

  • Proven skills in routine histology, histochemistry, and immunohistochemistry techniques.

  • Proficiency in brightfield, fluorescence, and confocal microscopy techniques.

  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to plan, prioritise, and meet deadlines.

  • High-level organisational skills, with a proactive approach to problem-solving and sound judgement.

  • Ability to develop protocols, train users, and manage online equipment/resource booking systems.
