We are currently looking for an excellent Diesel Mechanic II (Swing Shift) to join our team - could it be you we are looking for?! Our mechanics are the grease that keep the "wheels turning" at Jammie's, as we have an ever growing fleet of over 300 pieces - -  vac-trucks, tractors, hydro-blasters, frac pumps, roll-off trucks, wheel loaders, CATs, excavators (and more).  If you like a new challenge every day, learning new equipment, enjoy being part of a team and take pride in doing a job safely AND well, this is the place for you! 


As we often work mill shutdowns and provide incident response, this position may require working various shifts, weekends, and overtime. The position may also require long hours and travel, including overnight travel, at times. Travel expenses, such as hotel and a daily per-diem, are employer-paid. 


Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Perform tasks following all safety protocols, rules and regulations as defined by local, state, federal, company and customer specific guidelines.
  • Performs safety inspections, repairs and preventative maintenance to company vehicles to ensure safe operations of vehicles and equipment. Maintenance may include engine and transmission services, brakes. A/C, steering and suspension, hydraulics, air brakes and electrical systems. 
  • Trouble-shoot and assist with repair as needed and upon request.
  • Prioritizes work based on safety, scheduled need; documents repairs and consistently communicates status to shop manager and dispatch.
  • Responds to emergency calls for assistance; travels and drives to sites as necessary to assist others and transport vehicles and equipment.
  • May fabricate parts and tools; performs welding as needed to replace or rebuild needed parts and equipment.
  • Assists in maintaining accurate parts inventory.
  • Keeps work areas, tools, company property, and vehicles organized and clean.
  • Complete all training and certifications as assigned and maintain current certifications as needed
  • May operate a variety of equipment, including vacuum excavation, hydro-blasters, pressure washers, forklift, commercial vehicles, etc. to assess, repair, and test.
  • Utilize personal protective equipment that can include: disposable or reusable coveralls, raingear, gloves, hardhats, safety glasses or goggles, chemical-resistant clothing, face shields, hearing protection, and respirators (half and full-face).
  • Complete work orders, daily time sheets and job cards accurately and timely with documentation of hours worked, job coding, equipment used, and meal and rest periods, etc.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.


Requirements                                                 

  • Associate's degree or two-year technical certificate in automotive and/or diesel technology or related field; AND 3-5 years experience working in vehicle maintenance and repair OR equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience.
  • This position may eventually work and potentially lead a Swing Shift, so the ability to work independently and as a member of a team is crucial.  
  • Must have tools. 
  • Possess an understanding and ability to read and understand schematics and diagrams.
  • Able to safely work indoors in a shop or outdoors to repair trucks on the road or customer sites. Also need to be able to adapt to varying temperatures of cold and hot.
  • Must have a valid and current driver's license with ability to be insured by our insurer. Must have and be able to maintain an excellent driving/safety record. A current driving abstract and proof of all certifications and licenses is required and regular reviews of records are conducted;  CDL strongly preferred.
  • Must pass pre-employment DOT drug screen, background check and participate in JEI’s DOT drug and alcohol program, to include random testing.
  • Must be able to identify, analyze, and solve problems.
  • Must maintain professional conduct with internal and external employees and vendors.
  • Must be able to wear required PPE and be safety-minded with attention to detail.
  • Must be motivated and display initiative as a self-starter who can find/see what needs to be done and initiate action needed
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs

The posted salary is a range; the starting salary is typically set at the low to midpoint of the range, depending on the candidate's experience and qualifications.


As this is a safety-sensitive position, our drug/alcohol testing is not limited to but does include testing for THC metabolites.
