We are currently looking for an Operations Manager to join our Huntley, IL team.
This role oversees the daily operations of manufacturing and production processes within a flexible packaging company. This role is responsible for ensuring efficient and cost-effective production, maintaining high product quality, and adhering to safety and environmental standards. The manager coordinates with cross-functional teams, including maintenance and quality assurance, to meet operational goals and customer demands.
Objectives:
- Implement and coordinate all production processes including printing, offline and shipping in a manner designed to promote plant and company goals.
- Support sales growth within the site through direct and indirect contact with customers.
- In coordination with the Quality Department, manage and support R&D for new product development and process optimization.
- In coordination with all plant management, develop and implement programs for the training of all plant employees.
- Uphold a genuine regard for safety, ensuring employees understand and follow safety guidelines, discussing safety results, and recognizing individuals for safety suggestions.
- Adhere to HACCP and food safety guidelines.
- Execute all functions in a manner consistent with the company mission, goals and philosophy.
Salary range: $97,000 - $125,000 per year, DOE.

Responsibilities:
When your actions lead to success:
- Evaluate plant equipment, production methods, and equipment maintenance in cooperation with the Maintenance Manager; to develop, purpose and document suggestions to improve quality and productivity.
- Mentor and develop production supervisors and other direct reports by providing ongoing feedback and coaching, training, performance evaluations, etc…
- Problem-solve issues that impact employee safety, food safety, quality, service, waste, and efficiency.
- In cooperations with HSE Team, identify and anticipate safety concerns and hazards.
- Lead the development of work instructions where applicable and oversee training plans.
- Utilize appropriate Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) to hold departments accountable to performance.
- Make disposition and rerun decisions on product quality issues.
- Develop budgets for all production departments and ensure budget targets are met.
- Attend Management Review and carry out corrective/preventative actions.
- Assist in the setting of machine standards and monitor trended performance against those expectations.
- Prepare for and participate in customer, supplier, or vendor visits as requested.
- Work closely with Production Schedulers to create an efficient prioritization of jobs, managing on-time service levels.
- Assist in writing Capital Acquisition Requests (CAR’s) by determining business case and ROI.
- Foster effective working relationships between all departments.
- Engage plant employees in collaborative efforts to resolve problems.
- Support recruiting, selection, onboarding, and training activities for production team members.
- Participate in meetings such as: Department Meetings, Safety Committee, Emergency Response Team, etc.
- Create, audit and revise training processes and documentation as needed.
- Ensure consistency amongst direct reports by communicating expectations effectively.
- Perform other essential and non-essential functions as assigned.

Education
- Degree in related Field (Maintenance, Engineering, Business Administration)
Professional competencies or background:
- Superior knowledge and experience in all phases of operations for flexible packaging materials.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant Management experience
- Strong emotional maturity level and tactfulness
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to get along with diverse personalities
- A demonstrated ability to use computer systems to manage work
- Proficient in the use of computer equipment and software including all Microsoft Office applications
- A demonstrated understanding of leadership and decision making
- The ability to coach team members to help them improve their skills
- Effectively communicate with direct reports, leaders, plant team members, vendors, and contractors via email, phone, or face-to-face to advance solutions to problems
- Supervise the activities of others
