What’s the job? 

The Library Student Assistants will work closely with Library staff to support students in accessing and using Library services, particularly digital collections, online tools, and self-service resources. They will provide front-line customer service across physical and online Library spaces, including assisting students with simple enquiries and referring more complex questions to the appropriate Library staff. 

 

These roles align with Torrens University Australia’s Strategic Plan and the Library’s Tiered Service Model, supporting the delivery of accessible, responsive, and engaging services that build students’ academic, digital, and information literacies. 

 

The work hours of the Library Student Assistants will vary based on service demand across the study period (e.g. Trimester) and the operational budget, as well as the specific campus needs. 

 

 

We are seeking Library Student Assistants to work casually at the Adelaide campusA small pool of candidates will be appointed at each location to fulfil service demands on a rostered basis.  Full paid training provided. 

 

Accountabilities: 

  • Assisting students and staff with accessing the library website, catalogue, subject readings, LibGuides, and other digital resources. 

  • Providing simple, front-line support for queries about using the digital library and self-service tools. 

  • Supporting students and staff in navigating the digital library through online help channels such as FAQs, LibChat, and instructional videos. 

  • Promoting Library services and resources through orientation, activations, and student engagement activities. 

  • Referring more complex or specialised enquiries (e.g. in-depth research support, copyright, or academic integrity issues) to Librarians or other relevant staff. 

  • Maintaining accurate records of service interactions where required. 

 

We Are Looking For: 

  • A current TUA student or recent TUA graduate who has completed their degree in the last 12 months 

  • Strong communication skills and confidence in engaging with a diverse student cohort. 

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. 

  • Strong organisational and time management skills. 

  • Digital competence and confidence in using online systems and tools. 

  • Problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify when referral is required.
