Philosophy, Politics, and Economics PSC Members (Positions Below)

The PPE Student Council (PPE PSC) is dedicated to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment for students pursuing Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE) at Queen's University. Our council members play a crucial role in enhancing the academic and social experience of our peers through their leadership, collaboration, and commitment to excellence. Each position within the council carries distinct responsibilities, yet all members work synergistically to promote the values and objectives of the PPE program. Whether providing peer mentorship, managing finances, coordinating events, or promoting equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility (EDII-A), our council members are pivotal in shaping a vibrant and engaged PPE community.

Positions Available:

Peer Mentor (3 positions available):

  • Qualities: Approachable, supportive, and reliable. Knowledgeable about the PPE program and university resources
  • Responsibilities:
  • Provide guidance and support to current PPE students.
  • Connect with prospective students to assist with course selection and the application process.
  • Share internal and external opportunities relevant to PPE students.
  • Engage with professors to strengthen student-faculty connections.
  • Reach out to students to develop the PPE community and provide ongoing mentorship.

Financial Director:

  • Qualities: Strong numerical and organizational skills, detail-oriented and reliable in managing budgets, effective communicator with council members and external contacts.
  • Responsibilities:
  • Manage and update the council’s budget throughout the year.
  • Allocate event budgets and keep organizers informed of spending limits.
  • Handle reimbursements for council-related expenses.
  • Communicate with ASUS regarding financial matters.
  • Collaborate with the Sponsorships Director to integrate grant funding.
  • Coordinate with the Merchandise Director on revenue and expenses.

Outreach Director:

  • Qualities: Strong communication, organized, proactive in seeking external opportunities.
  • Responsibilities:
  • Manage and maintain the PPE LinkedIn page by posting updates, connecting with alumni, and promoting events.
  • Build and organize an alumni contact database while fostering ongoing connections.
  • Initiate collaborations with other Queen’s clubs, DSCs, and external organizations.
  • Maintain regular communication with the PPE Society chapter to strengthen partnerships.

Sponsorship Director

  • Qualities: Strong networking and communication skills, proactive in outreach to businesses and organizations
  • Responsibilities: 
  • Build and maintain relationships with local Kingston businesses for sponsorship opportunities.
  • Collaborate with the Finance Team to identify and apply for grants.
  • Research and secure bursaries and financial aid to support PSC initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate records of sponsorships, applications, and funding outcomes.

Merchandise Director:

  • Qualities: Strong organizational and communication skills, detail-oriented in tracking costs and profits, creative with design and branding ideas.
  • Responsibilities:
  • Design and oversee production of merchandise such as hoodies, tote bags, t-shirts, and stickers.
  • Facilitate merchandise sales and ensure smooth distribution.
  • Communicate with manufacturers to manage orders and production timelines.
  • Collaborate with the Finance Team to track expenses, revenue, and profitability.
  • Maintain accurate records of merchandise inventory and sales performance.

Logistics Director:

  • Coordinate with the events team to ensure seamless logistical support.
  • Develop event schedules and delegate roles within the council.
  • Manage the booking of spaces and communication of meeting times to the council.

Marketing Director:

  • Qualities: Proficiency in Canva, CapCut, and social media platforms (Instagram, LinkedIn), detail-oriented and reliable in meeting deadlines, photography skills considered an asset.
  • Responsibilities:
  • Curate and manage the council’s social media presence to engage the PPE community.
  • Develop and publish graphics, videos, and marketing materials for events, merchandise, and initiatives.
  • Promote events and news effectively across platforms, ensuring consistent branding.
  • Provide a marketing portfolio of previous work as part of the application (email ppe.president@ asus.queensu.ca)

Events Director:

  • Qualities: Strong organizational and planning skills, reliable in managing deadlines and administrative requirements, effective communicator and team collaborator.
  • Responsibilities:
  • Plan and organize events for the PPE PSC, including academic and social programming.
  • Ensure events run smoothly and align with the council’s objectives.
  • Complete logistical forms to secure event approvals.
  • Lead and delegate tasks to the events team
  • Support with administrative tasks such as booking spaces, arranging catering, or handling setup and takedown.
  • Provide feedback and ideas to improve future events.


EDII-A Director:

  • Qualities: Knowledgeable about equity, diversity, inclusion, accessibility, and anti-oppression principles, proactive in developing initiatives and addressing feedback.
  • Responsibilities:
  • Review all council events to ensure they are inclusive, accessible, and equitable.
  • Develop and lead initiatives that promote EDII-A within the council and PPE community.
  • Monitor the anonymous feedback forum and provide recommendations for improvement.
  • Ensure council communications are accessible, including checking posts for subtitles, captions, and inclusive language.
  • Introduce new ideas to strengthen EDII-A practices across PPE.
