Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Provides reasonable and prudent dental care for CS-HHC patients. Treats patients and staff respectfully, courteously and appropriately
- Performs oral prophylaxis, fluoride treatments and sealants
- Supports the Dentist with X-rays, surveys and mouth charting
- Maintains the recall system
- Participates in hygiene audits as required
- Represents the Dental Department on various committees as assigned
- Instructs patients in good oral hygiene habits and after care for dental treatments rendered
- Responsible for directing and discussing dental hygiene procedures with patients and when appropriate with their parents or care givers
- Assists the Senior Hygienist in making schedules
- Contributes to departmental planning and direction
- Performs other duties as necessary
Requirements:
- Degree from an accredited School of Dental Hygiene and license to practice dental hygiene in Connecticut.
- CPR Certification is required.
- Previous Dental experience is preferred. New graduates can apply. Familiarity with GE Centricity/VisDental system is highly desirable.
- Excellent technical and interpersonal skills required.
- Ability to work with disadvantaged persons.
- Ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds and ability to communicate warmth and confidence to the patient’s population.
- Interest in preventive dentistry, social consciousness, sensitivity to needs of community residents and the desire to work with and for disadvantaged persons.
- Excellent computer skills are necessary. GE Centricity/VisDental and/or electronic dental knowledge are highly recommended.
- Must be willing to provide evening, Saturday and satellite clinic coverage when necessary.
