LOCATION OF POSITION: Fairport NY 14450; Special Education and Student Services
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: 10-Month Position, Full-Time
STARTING DATE: September 2025
SALARY RANGE: $48,500 - $78,642 per school year
*Actual Salary Is Dependent Upon Education, Experience and Contract.
DUTIES:
1. Orientation of students, parents, and school personnel to the Transition process and issues related to Transition planning.
2. Liaison and coordination with VESID, FLDDSO, and other adult community agencies and organizations.
3. Technical assistance on Transition related issues to district school personnel and the committee on Special Education.
4. Recommend Transition related activities that assist in the development of student post-secondary goals.
5. Administer career interest surveys to students; assist students in college search process.
6. Prepare and deliver presentations on the Transition process to various community groups.
7. Collaborate with High School and Transition Age Classroom teachers to provide meaningful instruction on Transition related topics.
8. Facilitate Person-Centered Planning meetings.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Civil Service eligibility as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor: Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma, plus EITHER: (A) Six (6) years of paid full-time or its part-time equivalent experience as an employment specialist or job counselor working with people with disabilities; OR
(B) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with an associate degree in Human Services, * plus four (4) years of experience as described in (A); OR
(C) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a bachelor’s degree in Human Services, * Sociology, Psychology, Social Work, plus two (2) years of experience as described in (A); OR
(D) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a bachelor’s degree, plus three (3) years of experience as described in (A); OR
(E) Any equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A), (B), and (C).
*Human Service degrees involve coursework designed to prepare individuals to enhance and increase the well-being of society and the individuals it comprises. The course of study must clearly focus upon giving the student the knowledge and capacity to deal with people in need of support services. It includes the “helping professions” such as social work, psychology, gerontology and vocational and/or psychological counseling.
2. Knowledge of Community Services.
3. Certification areas that will be considered include Special Education, Rehabilitation, Vocational Education, Guidance, Work Study, and other related certifications and college majors.
4. Previous experience in job development, job placement, counseling, previous work with school aged students with special needs, parent conferencing, and exposure to schools’ community agencies, and funding sources preferred.
5. Valid driver’s license.
6. Physically able to perform essential functions of the position (with or without reasonable accommodation).
