Title: Student Worker, Prison Education Program

Division: Provost

Department: Vice Provost, Academic Affairs

Non-Exempt, Part time

 

  1. Position Summary

The Prison Education Student Worker is responsible for assisting the Director of Prison Education in various aspects of the CUH prison education program. This work will involve providing administrative support for the program, including creating methods to track salient data, assisting faculty in the program, and serving as a resource to students transitioning out. This role requires a high degree of professionalism, sensitivity to the unique needs of incarcerated individuals, and a commitment to contributing positively to the rehabilitation and reintegration efforts of the prison education program.

Direct Report to: Rylie Hager

Indirect Report to: Janet Davidson (for reasons or area of responsibility)

 

  1. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide administrative support, including logistical support for the prison education program. 
  • Data tracking and reporting, including researching best practices and creating in-house data collection systems.
  • Serve as a first-line resource for faculty teaching in the prison education program. 
  • Serve as an additional resource to students in the program.

  1. Education and Experience

Minimum

  • Currently enrolled at Chaminade University of Honolulu.
  • Must be a student within the Prison Education Program

Preferred

  • Student should maintain a current GPA of at least (2.5/3.0).

 

  1. Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities 
  • Strong communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google or related software.
  • Should be resourceful, organized and manage time wisely.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, adapt easily, and work with a team.
  • Attention to detail with a focus on thoroughness and quality.
  • High integrity and ethical standards.

 

  1. Physical Requirements

Duties involve light work in an office and community setting and requires a minimum of physical effort with intermittent sitting, standing, climbing stairs, and walking inclines. Must be able to lift 20 pounds, walk the campus with ease, and have excellent motor skills. Must have finger dexterity. Must be able to communicate information and ideas so that others will understand.

 

  1. Other Requirements: 
  • This is a Part-time Non-Exempt Student Worker position. Depending on the project cycles and workflow demands of the department, additional hours or workday schedule changes may be occasionally required.  Must be willing and able to work occasional nights and weekends and a varying schedule.
  • Observes all safety and health regulations and works in accordance with safe work procedures and policies of the University. Reports unsafe acts/conditions and injuries in a timely and proper manner.
