The Mental Health Manager provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for the YMCA’s mental health initiatives. This role is responsible for managing the department’s fiscal health, including budgeting, grant writing, and grant administration, while ensuring programs align with organizational goals and community needs. The Director works closely with the Mental Health Educator to support the implementation of Social Emotional Learning (SEL) frameworks, monitor data systems, and evaluate program effectiveness.

This position plays a key role in shaping the future of mental health services at the YMCA, offering vision and guidance to strengthen impact, expand reach, and foster a culture of care across all branches. The Manager will collaborate with executive leadership, community partners, and internal teams to promote mental wellness, equity, and access.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Manage Mental Health Department programming, and oversee staff including the Mental Health Educator, Mental Health Interns, SHE program facilitators and BOY Program facilitators.  
  2. Oversee the mental health department’s budget, financial planning, and grant portfolio
  3. Lead grant writing efforts and manage compliance, reporting, and sustainability strategies
  4. Provide strategic direction for mental health programming, ensuring alignment with best practices and community needs
  5. Support and supervise the Mental Health Educator in program implementation, staff development, and SEL integration
  6. Monitor and refine data tracking systems to assess outcomes and inform continuous improvement
  7. Represent the YMCA in public forums, community events, and collaborative initiatives
  8. Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders, including funders, schools, and service providers
  9. Foster a team-oriented environment that values innovation, accountability, and compassion
  10. Ideal candidates will bring experience in nonprofit leadership, mental health systems, and program development. Strong skills in grant management, public speaking, community engagement, and cross-functional collaboration are essential.
  11. Coordinate and provide professional training for staff in areas such as:
    1. Interventions for Challenging Behavior
    2. How to identify signs/indications that individuals may need mental health and/or substance abuse services
    3. Suicide awareness and prevention
    4. De-Escalation Strategies
    5. Social Emotional Learning Curriculum 
    6. Other topics based on assessment of training need (Primarily with School Age and Day Camp teams, however, can expand to other Departments) 
  12. Assist staff in making referrals to the appropriate mental health provider based on the circumstances for each individual youth in need of services.
  13. Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Public and Community Health, Psychology, Social Work or other health-related field required. 
  2. Experience in a YMCA or community non-profit setting is preferred.
  3. Experience with interagency coordination of services.
  4. Working knowledge of community mental health resources.
  5. Experience in assessment of service and/or training needs.
  6. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite Zoom and Teams.
  7. Experience in working closely with volunteers and staff.
  8. Excellent writing, organizational, presentation and communication skills.
  9. Strong project management and problem-solving skills.
  10. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, volunteers, members, senior leaders, and the public.
  11. Understanding of and enthusiasm for the mission of the YMCA. Motivated while working in a fast-paced environment.
  12. Ability to work with integrity, discretion, and a professional approach.
