Supervisor: Director of Event Planning
Minimum Rate: $17.73/hr
This position will primarily work nights, weekends and holidays
General Purpose:
The Event Setup Supervisor is responsible for leading, training, and supervising part-time event setup technicians to ensure the timely, efficient, and accurate setup and teardown of all events hosted at the Milwaukee Art Museum. This position plays a key role in ensuring high standards of presentation, safety, and customer service are maintained in all event spaces, while supporting the Museum’s mission and guest experience.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Supervise and lead a team of part-time event setup technicians, ensuring daily tasks are completed accurately and on time
- Perform event setup and teardown duties as needed, including moving furniture, placing signage, and preparing equipment
- Execute event floor plans provided by the Event Planning Department, ensuring layouts are followed precisely
- Assist in creating, modifying, and reviewing setup diagrams in collaboration with the Event Planning team
- Proactively monitor the setup schedule to minimize overtime and adjust staffing needs accordingly
- Maintain and track setup inventory; ensure all equipment is properly stored, labeled, and maintained
- Coordinate event logistics with external vendors and rental companies while they are onsite, ensuring adherence to MAM policies
- Ensure all event spaces and storage areas are clean, organized, and safe before and after each event
- Maintain cleanliness and functionality of event equipment such as chairs, tables, staging, and signage
- Report damages or missing equipment and coordinate timely repairs or replacements
- Communicate effectively with internal departments, including Security, Facilities, and AV, to ensure smooth event execution
- Support other Museum departments with setup needs as assigned
- Model professionalism and exceptional service standards at all times, especially during high-profile or donor-related events
Requirements
Experience/Education Requirements:
High School Diploma
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 80 pounds repeatedly
- Comfortable working on feet for extended periods of time
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule including early mornings, late evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Ability to work up to 12+ hour shifts, particularly during major events or peak seasons
- Comfortable working in a variety of environments including indoor, outdoor, and temperature-controlled spaces
Temperament:
Excellent interpersonal skills, systematic, meticulous, patient, energetic, self-starter and works well under pressure. Manages time efficiently, analyzes and solves problems independently and if necessary, collaboratively. Ability to be flexible and embrace changes within this position due to departmental priorities. Ability to work with a wide variety of people to achieve the goals of the Museum.
