GENERAL SUMMARY

The Roadway Technician will be responsible for performing asphalt testing and quality control requirements. Routine duties are performed with minimal supervision; standard practices or procedures allow employee to proceed alone at routine work.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Test and analyze samples to determine compliance to specifications, using testing equipment.

2. Assemble, operate, and maintain field and laboratory testing, measuring, and mechanical equipment.

3. Monitor gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure machine is working properly.

4. Perform quality control of contractor’s operations to ensure that they comply with contact documents, plans, and specifications. Keeps quality control records of assigned work activities.

5. Performs on-site material and gravity testing.

6. Understands the lay-down, breakdown rolling, and finish rolling processes involved with laying asphalt.

7. Uses calculators, nuclear gauges, and figures random numbers.

8. Communicates well with paving foreman.

9. Responsible for notifying supervisor of any potential safety or equipment issues immediately.

10. Performs all work in a safe, efficient manner, following routine and all standards of performance. Work is repetitive and continuous.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

 At least two (2) years of prior related experience required. Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.
