JOB TITLE:                   STEM Lab Teacher Assistant           WAGE/HOUR STATUS: Nonexempt

REPORTS TO:             Dean                                                    PAY: $20.80 PER HOUR

SCHOOL:                     Stem Academy                                CONTRACT DAYS: 112 or less

 

PRIMARY PURPOSE:   Assist teachers and students in weekly STEM Lab activities.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:

48 college hours or Associates Degree

Special Knowledge / Skills:

  • Knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, science, and mathematics; or
  • Knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing reading readiness, writing readiness, scientific concepts, and mathematics readiness, as appropriate.
  • Possess good communication and organizational skills and is detailed focused. Has strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated knowledge and understanding of child growth and development, effective instructional strategies, classroom management, learning assessment and diagnosis, and research related to learning.

 

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists teachers and students in weekly STEM Lab activities.
  • Participate cooperatively in the system of evaluation as stated in the charter’s guidelines.
  • Participate in assigned committees, school and parent meetings.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
  • Teacher assistants are scheduled to participate in various professional development days as scheduled each academic school year. Generally, this position will require the teacher assistant to be on campus no more than 19.5 hours a week.

 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Functional supervision received from the principal under the general direction of the Superintendent and Charter Board of Trustee’s.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Physical strength/endurance to enable him/her to perform/participate in the following activities:

  • Physically able to lift various materials up to 25 pounds on an occasional basis.
  • Physically able to push, pull, lift and drag.
  • While performing required job tasks, physically able to remain standing, frequently to continuously.
  • While performing required job tasks, physically able to remain sitting up to 25% of the time.
  • Possesses dexterity abilities required to perform typing, operate a computer and other equipment to perform related job responsibilities.
  • Ability to travel to attend events and conferences

  • Ability to identify problems and to propose feasible solutions. Strong organizational skills and the ability to work well under pressure and to meet deadlines.
  • Solid knowledge of Microsoft Office (specifically, Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook).
  • Possess the ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and faculty to promote positive relations and encourage enrollment.
  • Engage in meaningful and intentional professional development appropriate for areas of responsibility.
  • Carry out all responsibilities and objectives in a professional manner.
  • Maintain professionalism when dealing with all staff and other customers while fostering positive working relationships.
  • Adhere to the policies and procedures established by ECISD, Texas Education Agency, and the Academic Charter Operating Partner.
