JOB TITLE: Groundskeeper II
JOB CLASSIFICATION: Maintenance – MACP
REPORTS TO: Supervisor, Maintenance and Grounds
JOB SUMMARY:
Perform a variety of skilled grounds and landscaping tasks in the development and maintenance of all district grounds.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Maintain lawns and athletic facilities to include mowing, fertilizing, seeding, thatching, aerating and top dressing.
- Maintain and develop landscaping to include preparation of ground for lawns, plants, trees, planting shrubs; plant seeds, bulbs, shrubs; rake leaves; pull, hoe and cut weeds, prune, spray and fertilize.
- Perform a variety of grounds-related tasks, including removing debris from school grounds; plowing snow, shoveling, and clearing ice from walks, driveways, parking lots, and other concrete/asphalt areas; spreading deicer; installing and repairing playground equipment and fences; performing drainage maintenance; and installing and maintaining irrigation systems. Maintain sports fields, synthetic turf fields, and athletic facilities for extracurricular use and use by the community.
- Function in a general labor capacity as requested on tasks to include, but not limited to: grounds care, building security, transferring and warehousing of equipment and supplies, and other general labor projects.
- Use a variety of equipment to include hand implements and tools; push, riding and gang mowers; ditch witch, backhoe, tractor, road sander, and other large commercial equipment; edger, weed eater, blower, grinder, chain saw, and other power equipment.
- Complete minor construction of sidewalks, pathways, steps and site development.
- Apply pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers in compliance with safety regulations, including but not limited to proper posting of treated areas, providing required notifications, and following all application, storage, and disposal procedures and laws.
- Implement and comply with District policies.
- Maintain consistent attendance and conform to regular work hours specified.
- Fulfill other duties as assigned by the supervisor or Lead.
JOB REQUIREMENTS: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include:
- Knowledge of and ability to provide for plant and lawn care, fertilization, irrigation, and pruning.
- Knowledge of proper herbicides, insecticides and other chemical use related to job responsibilities.
- Knowledge of and ability to use various equipment related to job responsibilities.
- Ability to read, write, perform basic math problems; ability to read, interpret and follow written and verbal instructions including service orders, emails, labels on chemicals and supplies, etc.
- Ability to operate basic computer systems including Microsoft programs, Kronos, Sonitrol, etc. to meet perform general tasks and meet daily administrative needs.
- Skill and abilities of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Skills in and ability to communicate effectively with others.
- Skills and abilities in organization, time management, efficiency, and record keeping.
- Ability to interact positively and effectively with others.
- Ability to exercise discretion and work independently.
- Ability to follow safety guidelines and procedures.
- Ability to strengthen job-related competencies.
- Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance and to be flexible in meeting deadlines.
- Ability to lift up to fifty (50) pounds.
Education and Experience:
- High school graduation or its equivalent.
- Valid Washington Driver's License with acceptable driving record.
- Possess State certification for the application of herbicides and insecticides, or ability to obtain.
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Five (5) years of experience in grounds maintenance and landscaping.
