POSITION SUMMARY

The Director of Human Resources is responsible for planning, directing, and implementing human resource policies, programs, and activities in support of operational and strategic goals. The role advises on people strategy and serves as a change agent across the university. The Director of Human Resources performs all duties in a manner that promotes the mission, values, and philosophies of University of Providence.  In all aspects, he/she serves as a role model for these values and missions.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan, design, and implement strategies for Human Resources in support of institutional and department goals.
  • Oversee the development, revisions and administration of employee policies, procedures, and processes as they relate to the Human Resources function.
  • Partner closely with the constituents at Providence Health to manage benefits open enrollment and ensure services and information reporting are delivered in an efficient and effective manner.
    • Work closely with Leadership and the Controller to analyze costs of programs and monitor budget.
    • Administer Human Resources departmental budget.
    • Ensure compliance with Federal and State regulations applicable to Human Resources administration.
    • Resolve complex issues of a multi-disciplinary nature regarding employee relations concerns, university policies, and employment law.
    • Function as a resource to the University community on personnel issues, grievances, and other sensitive matters.
    • Champion a positive organizational culture, aligned with the mission of the University, through recognition, retention, and employee well-being initiatives.
    • Prepare, analyze, compile, and or distribute information relating to compensation processes, turnover calculations and costs with HRIS software, job content documentation, job description generation; FLSA exemption determination; benefit and compensation surveys.
    • Leverage HRIS and analytics to provide insights that inform strategic decision-making, including workforce trends, retention, and performance.
    • Lead yearly employee engagement survey and engagement action planning.
    • Lead yearly staff performance development process.
    • Facilitate people manager training, ensuring that all university leaders and managers have the skills they need to effectively manage direct reports and teams.
    • Maintain and enhance employee training compliance purposes.
    • Direct and evaluate the University’s employee recruitment efforts and strategy.
    • Manage hiring process including background checks and employee onboarding. 
    • Manage off-boarding process for voluntary and involuntary terminations.
    • Serve as a change agent for major university initiatives related to Human Resources.
    • Serve as the HR lead for HR software upgrades and initiatives.
    • In coordination with the Provost’s office, manage term employment contracts for faculty, adjuncts, and staff, ensuring compliance with federal and state laws and IRS requirements for independent contractors and employees.
    • Serve on various committees as assigned.

 

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; PHR/SPHR/SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

  • At least 5 years of progressive experience in Human Resources including experience with recruitment, compensation and benefits, employee relations, employee engagement action planning, hiring and onboarding, and talent management.
  • Academic experience is preferred but not required.
  • Any suitable combination of education, training, or experience will be considered.
