About the Department

All Borough employees who occupy positions where federal law mandates testing shall comply with the requirements of the federal regulations and will be subject to pre-employment, random, post-accident, reasonable suspicion return to duty and follow-up testing.

Supervise, coordinate, build,  maintain and repair systems for the utilization and distribution of electrical energy.

Position Duties

Coordinate install and maintain electrical distribution systems area wide.

Prepare monthly and other reports and maintain logs of activities as required and requested.

Coordinate and climb utility poles and towers to perform maintenance and repairs.

Coordinate and trouble-shoot the distribution systems and correct problems.

Coordinate operations to maintain a balanced power load.

Coordinate and travel to the villages to perform services.

Comply with all safety standards and regulations.

Coordinate the response and respond to emergency calls 24-hours a day, 7 days per week.

Supervise contractors, Lineman and Apprentice Lineman's work to ensure North Slope Borough Standards for Village Power Grid System.

Coordinate, train and provide instructions to Apprentice Lineman.

Test Apprentice Lineman to determine competence for advancement.

Maintain parts inventory, order parts, write reports, prepare work orders and coordinate the maintenance program for the Power Grids.

Advise the Program Manager/Administration on all matters in reference to the Power Grids.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge of North Slope Borough organization, operations, policies and procedures.

Skill in using personal computers and a variety of software applications.

Working knowledge of the safe practice and procedures utilized in maintaining energized circuits up to 7,200 / 12,400 volts.

Ability to work at 60-foot heights.

Other Qualifications

High school graduate or G.E.D/or, a combination of 12 years of education and related work experience.

The State of Alaska Lineman Journeyman Certificate of Fitness;

Four years training under an approved apprentice lineman program;

Four years of documented experience as a Journeyman Lineman;

One year of supervisory work experience in a job related field;

Ability to obtain an Alaska Commercial Driver's License that meets the North Slope Borough insurance criteria within 30 days; and

Ability to obtain an Arial Boom-Truck certification within 30 days.
