About the Department

This full-time University Minister serves Loyola University New Orleans by directing the Ignatian Life Community (ILC) Program as well as directs the comprehensive, developmental retreat program and other spiritual formation programming sponsored by Student Life and Ministry.

Position Duties

  1. Coordinates, supervises, and mentors the comprehensive Ignatian Life Community program and its student leaders.
  2. Provides materials for small groups to grow in faith development and Ignatian formation.
  3. Builds and maintains a library of prayer and retreat resources.
  4. Helps new ILC groups grow as student interest presents.
  5. Keeps track of all existing groups, meeting regularly with group facilitators to offer him/herself as a resource and suggesting and providing ILC formational materials.
  6. Coordinates assessment of ILC learning outcomes, engages in full circle planning based on assessment results.
  7. Helps structure larger umbrella meetings available to all the ILC groups on campus, usually in the context of some enriching input along the lines of catechesis, faith development, or Ignatian formation
  8. Collaborates with other staff members in Student Life and Ministry and other student organizational leaders to find opportunities for co-sponsoring programs related to Jesuit values.
  9. Maintains a collaborative relationship with the Office of Mission and Identity, working together to provide opportunities for students to grow in understanding and commitment to our Catholic, Jesuit values.
     
Coordinates Communal Reflection Opportunities:
1.     Coordinates all phases of the comprehensive Student Life and Ministry communal reflection program in collaboration with other SLM professional staff.
2.     Ensures that all SLM communal reflection opportunities offer welcoming, inclusive and meaningful experiences for the spiritual development of community members from all faith traditions.
3.     Serves as consultant to student groups, “covenant partners,” and other university departments in creation of communal reflection experiences tailored to specific needs.
4.     Networks and collaborates with appropriate University departments, personnel and student organizations to provide communal reflection opportunities that promote greater awareness of Ignatian spirituality and encourage the reflective process.
5.     Actively engages in ongoing assessment of SLM communal reflection program and engages in full circle planning based on assessment results.
6.     Identifies, encourages, supports, and mentors (as needed) appropriate individuals to serve as leaders or presenters for communal reflection programming.
  

Additional Responsibilities:
1.   Supervises the Assistant University Minister for Retreats.   
2.   Manages operating and gift budgets for Communal Reflection (including Retreats and ILC’s) programs, documenting all expenses through standardized SLM documentation system and following all University financial procedure guidelines.  
3.   Maintains the ILC and Retreat pages on the Student Life and Ministry website and Howl Connect.
4.   Assists with Student Life and Ministry large-scale programming including Mass of the Holy Spirit, Sneaux, Senior Salute, and other events as assigned.
5.   Fulfills the general duties of all University Ministers and other assignments by Associate Director for Ministry and Assistant Vice President of Student Life and Ministry.
6.   Oversees promotion of Communal Reflection opportunities using Google Calendar, University Calendar, and Howl Connect, social media, and other SLM marketing media.
7.   Maintains the Magis Lounge as an area to welcome students for programs and leisure time, including studying.

Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum Master of Theology or Pastoral Studies degree or equivalent.
  • Minimum Three years of professional and/or graduate level pastoral experience, preferably in higher education apostolate
  • Strong familiarity with Ignatian spirituality/Jesuit education and a diversity of faith and worship traditions, as well as the Roman Catholic faith and worship tradition
  • An understanding of and experience with the spiritual and faith development of young adults.
  • Must possess and maintain a current valid driver’s license as a condition of employment, and must also be able to successfully pass any driver background information investigation and any driver education courses required by Risk Management.

  • Effective interpersonal and collaboration skills.
Twelve Month, full-time appointment, renewable annually based upon satisfactory performance in all areas of responsibility
