HOUSEKEEPER

JOB DESCRIPTION

 

Job Summary: Keep assigned areas clean, sanitized, and aseptic by scouring, scrubbing, mopping, window washing, carpet vacuuming, dusting, and other typical housekeeping tasks. Keep workstations clean and well stocked.

 

Job Relationships: 

  1. Reports to: Sunrise Village Housing Director.
  2. Internal Contacts: Nursing Assistants, Maintenance, and Residents.
  3. External Contacts: Residents, family, and friends.

 

Hours of Work: Day shift

 

Dress Code:  Colored pants or skirt, supportive walking shoes, uniform top, name tag, and maintain a neat and clean appearance.

 

Essential Requirement of Work: (No specific requirements)

  1. Previous housekeeping experience preferable.
  2. Ability to follow directions.
  3. Highly developed sense of responsibility.
  4. Commitment to excellence in cleaning.
  5. Ability to cooperate with others.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Ability for Full Performance:

  1. Knowledge of general work routines.
  2. Knowledge of procedures.
  3. Working knowledge of procedures for chemical use.
  4. Knowledge of Bethesda’s personnel policies.

 

 Physical Demands of the Job:

  1. Continual walking and standing.
  2. Life weights of 20-40 pounds occasionally.
  3. Frequent twisting, bending, stooping, pushing, and pulling movements.
  4. Occasional squatting, kneeling, sitting, reaching above shoulder levels.

Principal Job Responsibilities:

 

Responsibility: Maintain residents’ rooms in neat and tidy order.

 

Tasks:

  1. Dusting in Resident’s room.
  2. Clean window casings.
  3. Wipe down light fixtures on walls.
  4. Wipe down bed rails as needed.
  5. Wipe down all pictures and nick knacks.
  6. Wipe off nightstands and dressers.
  7. Change dollies.
  8. Wipe down doors and closet doors.
  9. Wash mirrors.
  10. Empty garbage.
  11. Sweep floor.
  12. Mop floor.
  13. Wash windows.
  14. Wash resident wheelchairs, commodes, and other resident equipment in room.

 

Responsibility: Maintain cleanliness of residents’ bathrooms.

 

Tasks:

  1. Clean vents.
  2. Clean sinks and toilets.
  3. Clean mirrors.
  4. Clean all pipes.
  5. Empty wastebaskets.
  6. Supply towels, toilet paper, and soaps as needed.
  7. Scrub floor.

 

Responsibility: Clean soiled utility room.

 

Tasks:

  1. Clean counter and sink.
  2. Clean hopper.
  3. Clean sterilization sink and drainer.
  4. Wipe down walls as needed.
  5. Empty garbage.
  6. Fill soap and hand towels.
  7. Fill disinfectant jugs.
  8. Sweep and mop floor.

 

Responsibility: Keep hallways clean.

 

Tasks:

  1. Clean handrails.
  2. Clean chairs.
  3. Wipe down pictures and artificial flowers.
  4. Clean drinking fountain.

 

Responsibility: Clean dining area.

 

Tasks:

  1. Wash and disinfect all tables three times daily.
  2. Sweep and mop floor.
  3. Make sure chairs are clean.
  4. Wipe down piano, TV, pictures, and nick knacks once a week or as needed.

 

Responsibility: Clean employee bathrooms.

 

Tasks:

  1. Wipe vents.
  2. Clean sink and toilet.
  3. Empty garbage.
  4. Fill towels and toilet paper.
  5. Sweep and mop floor.

 

Responsibility: Clean linen room.

 

Tasks:

  1. Make sure it is neat.
  2. Sweep and mop floor once a week.

 

Responsibility: Clean resident lounge.

 

Tasks:

  1. Wipe down window casings.
  2. Wipe pictures, nick knacks, and TV.
  3. Wash down tables and chairs.
  4. Vacuum floor.
  5. Vacuum chairs as needed.

 

Responsibility: Clean med room.

 

Tasks:

  1. Wash down all countertops.
  2. Clean sinks, mirrors, and chairs.
  3. Empty garbage.
  4. Fill paper towels and soap dispensers.
  5. Sweep and mop floors.

 

Responsibility: Clean kitchenette.

 

Tasks:

  1. Wash down countertops.
  2. Wipe out ice machines.
  3. Defrost refrigerator and clean microwave weekly.
  4. Fill towels and soap dispensers.
  5. Empty garbage.
  6. Sweep and mop floors.

 

Responsibility: Clean RN Supervisors office.

 

Tasks:

  1. Wipe down desks and computers as needed.
  2. Empty garbage.

 

Responsibility: Maintain elevators and stairways in a neat and clean manner.

 

Tasks:

  1. Sweep and clean weekly.  More often if needed.

 

Responsibility: Clean beds, wheelchair sand commodes on bath day.

 

Tasks:

  1. Wash bed, mattress, and the bed frame on assigned bath day. Flip mattress.
  2. Wash wheelchair on assigned bath day.
  3. Clean commode twice a week or more if needed.

 

Responsibility: Clean whirlpool and shower room.

 

Tasks:

  1. Clean toilet.
  2. Empty garbage.
  3. Supply toilet paper.
  4. Clean whirlpool once a week.
  5. Sweep and mop floor.

 

Responsibility: Load and unload linen cart daily.

 

Responsibility: Extra assignments that need to be done periodically.

 

Tasks:

  1. Take down and re-hang cubicle drapes as needed.
  2. Clean housekeeping cart and closet as needed.
  3. Mix cleaning solutions as needed.
  4. Bring cleaning supplies up and stock shelves.
  5. Keep vacant rooms ready for new residents.
  6. Report needed repairs to maintenance.
  7. Adjust to schedule changes.
  8. Clean windows twice a year – Spring and Fall. Spot clean as necessary.
  9. Visit assigned resident on a regular basis. (Recommended 5 minutes a day)

 

Professional and Personal Growth:

  1. Attend in-service and mandatory meetings are required.
  2. Observe all personnel policies.
  3. Conduct self in a professional, friendly manner regarding contact with resident’s family and staff.
