Position Overview
Manages inspection and testing of materials, parts, and assemblies to ensure adherence to established requirements. Supervises the Quality Inspection team in accordance with organizational procedures and goals. Ensures proper functioning of the quality department processes/procedures with a continuous improvement mindset. Supports operations groups with their quality control needs. Familiar with a variety of process control concepts, practices, and procedures. Develops and maintains good working relationship with cross functional employees, inspectors, leadership, and customers. Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Position reports directly to the Sr. Manager, Quality.
Principal Accountabilities
- Manage direct reporting Inspectors (e.g. Assembly, Bond, Paint, NDI, Stock Purge) across multiple shifts; including but not limited to ensuring shop inspection coverage for multiple programs, time keeping, vacation schedules, overtime scheduling and performance management.
- Develop inspection processes, methodologies and formally document this into structured inspection plans, practices and execution.
- Ensure Inspectors are conducting the required surveillance audits (e.g., FOD/5s, Operator Self Verification, Process/Spec compliance, etc.) and initiate corrective action for non-compliances.
- Create/Manage various performance metrics (surveillance audit results, inspection response time, FOD failures, NCR documentation time, etc.) to be evaluated in CABs, staff meetings, etc. In addition, initiate actions for poor performance.
- Develop inspector new hire training plans based on discipline of responsibility (e.g., assembly, bond, NDI, etc.), cross train all inspectors to eliminate single points of failure; implement and manage a skills matrix.
- Support quality improvement plans and work with all disciplines to ensure effective RCCA’s.
- Monitor activities of assigned employees to ensure compliance with all applicable requirements, procedures and performance expectations.
- Ensure that all personnel maintain their needed certifications and training requirements.
- Ensure adherence to all applicable business & quality processes and procedures such as FAA, DoD, Export Control, ITAR, Nadcap, AS9100, AS9102 and customer contractual requirements.
- Support all shipping related quality functions i.e., Certificates of Conformance, customer/FAA inspections, FAA 8130-9 forms, etc.
- Performs a variety of tasks as required and have excellent follow up skills.
- Other related duties as required due to changes in business processes or customer requirements.
Experience and Qualifications
- Must be a U.S. person per ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations) guidelines.
- This position is not eligible for Visa sponsorship or a foreign person per ITAR.
- Candidate must have a minimum 3 years of related management/leadership experience in an aerospace manufacturing environment. College degree and prior Quality experience is preferred, but not required. Related years of aerospace experience may be considered.
- Knowledge of aerospace composites fabrication and/or major structural assembly is preferred.
- Ability to understand, communicate and present complex technical information to a wide audience.
- Candidate must be proficient in Microsoft Windows and Office applications (i.e., Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel).
- Ability to proactively recognize, prioritize, communicate and execute business and department needs.
- Material Review Board process knowledge and in-depth understanding of Quality’s role/responsibilities with MRB.
- Experience in manufacturing shop floor execution systems within aerospace field is a plus.
- Working knowledge of AS9100 Quality Management System practices/procedures.
- Ability to read/interpret blueprints, GD&T, MBD, specifications and experience executing First Article Inspection reports per AS9102 requirements.
- Must possess advanced communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Good people and relationship building, people management and conflict resolution skills with ability to provide concise direction to staff and support teams.
- Self-starter and driven to excel at all that they do; able to manage one's time efficiently and the time of department resources.
- Has knowledge of Practical Problem-Solving techniques such as 8D, 5 Why, Ishikawa Diagrams, Pareto Analysis, etc. to determine the origin of a failure, its impact to overall business, and determine containment and countermeasure actions to eliminate recurrence of nonconformances.

- Must occasionally lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move up to 40 pounds of office supplies and materials.
