Musical Theater Assistant Director | Westonka High School
Assignment Dates: September 2, 2025 - November 23, 2025
Compensation: $2,760 - $3,160 (depending on prior experience)

Westonka High School Theatre is seeking an Assistant Director for our upcoming production of Chicago: Teen Edition. The Assistant Director will work closely with the Director to support the artistic vision of the show and help create a positive, organized, and inspiring rehearsal environment for our high school cast.

Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with the Director to plan and run rehearsals

• Provide support with blocking, scene work, and character development

• Offer feedback and guidance to students in a supportive and constructive way

• Assist with communication between production staff, cast, crew, & families.

• Attend production meetings, rehearsals, and performances

• Step in to lead rehearsals when the Director is unavailable

• Work with small groups or individual actors to polish scenes, lines, or character work

• Step in to run warm-ups, improvisation exercises, or team-building activities.

• Model professionalism and positive rehearsal etiquette.

• Reinforce director’s expectations for behavior, preparation, and focus.

• Assist with playbill creation & show promotions

Qualifications

• Experience in theatre direction, stage management, or performance.

• Strong communication and organizational skills.

• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

• Enjoys working with high school students and fostering a positive rehearsal culture.

• Canva and Social Media experience desired

Time Commitment

• Auditions are September 8 & 9. 

• Rehearsals typically run after school, five (5) days a week, from early September through mid-November.

• Technical rehearsals begin November 10, with performances scheduled for November 20-23, 2025.

• Full commitment to tech week and performances is required.

• Schedule for rehearsals is negotiable between the Director and AD.
