Salary offers will be made within the posted range. Placement within the range will be determined based on your similar work experience. The Port considers work experience to be similar if the scope and level of responsibility of your prior positions match the job being offered.
As a Manager, Workers’ Compensation, you will oversee all aspects of the Port's Self-Insured and Self-Administered Workers’ Compensation program and ensure program compliance with the rules and regulations under Title 51 of the Industrial Insurance Laws in the State of Washington. You will act as the System Administrator of the Origami claims management system.
- You will provide daily management, program oversight, and confidentiality to the processing and adjudication of claims and legal documents associated with claims.
- You will participate in settlement negotiations, recommend loss control strategies, and instruct Port personnel on workers’ compensation issues.
- You will develop, recommend, and implement workers compensation policies and procedures, including setting targets for milestones, ensuring adherence to deadlines, and implementing cost-effective practices.
- You will participate in and support auditing activities by providing claim records and material as requested by external regulators such as the Washington State Department of Labor and Industries, Washington State Insurance Commission, and internal auditing personnel.
- You will ensure the claims record management system interfaces with multiple internal and external systems to provide accurate record reporting and billing services.
- You will provide claim and injury reporting to internal departments to assist executives, supervisors, human resources, and labor in risk mitigation strategies. You will also partner with the Health & Safety Program Managers to review and analyze specific exposures and assist with recommending injury prevention strategies.
- You will provide customer service by communicating with injured workers, vocational counselors, nurse case managers, physicians, insurance companies, private investigators, employee relations, labor unions, regulators, and internal and external legal counsel.
- You will supervise, train, and collaborate with the Workers’ Compensation Claims Administrator and Workers' Compensation Administrative Assistant.
- You will develop, conduct, evaluate, and document workers compensation curriculum and training to support workforce comprehension and compliance as required by state and federal regulations.

- Experienced – You have five (5) years of experience adjudicating Washington State workers’ compensation claims, including managing self-insured and self-administered industrial insurance program under Title 51; and use of electronic claims management system, medical bill review, wage calculation and payment of employee workers' compensation claims, to include two (2) years of supervisory/lead/mentor experience including leading a program or process.
- Certifications – You are a Washington State Department of Labor and Industries- Certified Claims Adjudicator.

- Efficient Communicator – You can communicate via written, oral, electronic and in-person pathways with a wide range of people of various educational backgrounds using various software tools for documentation and reporting. You can also collaborate with stakeholders across departments and divisions and various external professionals to ensure timely claim management and compliance.
- Analytical Leader – You can assess, interpret, and report data, processes, and equipment as they intersect and impact the workforce. You are also highly organized to lead and manage complex and technical programs and projects of various sizes across multiple departments.

- Work Schedule – Your normal work schedule will be Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (40 hours per week). Slightly more flexible start and end times are available in this role. You may be required to work any and all assigned shifts, including weekends and holidays. You may be required to work during emergencies.
- Work Environment - This work will take place in a hybrid/in-office setting at Management’s discretion.
- Washington State Residency Requirement – Employees must establish a residence in Washington state within 30 days of their first day of employment and must maintain a residence in Washington State during their employment with the Port of Seattle. If a position is eligible to telework, work performed while teleworking must be performed in Washington State.
- Safety Requirements – You will be required to comply with all work rules, safety, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements.
- Security Requirements – As the successful candidate, you must pass a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) background check as well as a criminal history background check with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Your employment will be contingent upon obtaining a Port of Seattle ID badge upon clearance.
