Job Title: Lead Greenskeeper
Reports To: Golf Course Superintendent / Grounds Manager
Department: Grounds Maintenance
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt / Hourly
Location: Woodberry Forest Golf Course
Position Summary:
The Lead Greenskeeper is responsible for overseeing daily maintenance operations of the golf course greens, tees, fairways, and related landscaping. This position ensures the course is maintained at the highest standards of playability and aesthetics, while providing leadership to the grounds crew and assisting with scheduling, training, and quality control.
Key Responsibilities:
Supervise and coordinate the work of groundskeeping staff, including daily assignments and performance monitoring.
Perform turf maintenance tasks, including mowing greens, tees, and fairways, trimming, edging, fertilizing, and pest control.
Inspect course conditions and ensure areas are adequately watered, treated, and maintained.
Operate and maintain various types of turf equipment, including record keeping (e.g., mowers, trimmers, aerators).
Assist in the planning and execution of seasonal maintenance projects, including aeration, overseeding, and irrigation repairs.
Ensure adherence to safety procedures and protocols by all staff.
Train new and existing employees on the use of equipment, landscaping practices, and proper maintenance techniques.
Report equipment issues, weather-related concerns, and turf conditions to the Golf Course Superintendent.
Maintain cleanliness and organization of maintenance facilities and equipment.
May assist in chemical application under supervision and in compliance with local regulations—record keeping.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED required; certificate or degree in Turf Management or related field preferred.
3+ years of experience in golf course or sports field maintenance, including supervisory experience.
Knowledge of turfgrass management, irrigation systems, and landscaping practices.
Ability to operate and maintain groundskeeping equipment safely and efficiently.
Strong communication and leadership skills.
Willingness to work early mornings, weekends, and holidays as required.
Ability to lift 50 lbs. and perform physical labor in varying weather conditions.
Work Environment:
This position requires frequent outdoor work and exposure to various weather conditions. Tasks may involve heavy lifting, loud equipment, and the use of chemicals under safety protocols.
