Summary: The Teacher promotes and develops successful learning for students, performs instructional and related duties in accordance with District and Board Policies and terms of the teacher contract. The Teacher will also develop and foster relationships with staff, parents, students and the community.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

- Teach district approved curriculum.
- Instruct students in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
- Develop lesson plans and instructional material in accordance with district provided curriculum.
- Instruct and monitors students in the use of learning materials and equipment.
- Comprehend and imparts the content of applicable grade level and subject curriculum.
- Communicate with students and parents regularly and clearly in an interactive way outside normal classroom day by means of newsletters, notes, phone calls, emails, conferences, etc.
- Establish and maintain standards of student behavior to achieve and effective learning atmosphere.
- Evaluate students’ academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records and prepares progress reports and report cards.
- Identify student needs and makes appropriate referrals and develops strategies for individual education plans.
- Understands that the work week in education cannot be interpreted literally and may require work outside of the regular work day in accordance with the FEA contract.
- Willing to learn and understand current education strategies and curriculum.
- Teach developmentally appropriate lessons following assigned curriculum guidelines.
- Ability to plan and implement activities for maximum effectiveness.
- Ability and willingness to work collaboratively with grade level teachers and with teachers across grade levels.
- Provide students with a safe and orderly environment for learning.
- Provide individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of the students.
- Attend IEP Meetings to plan for students with special needs.
- Speak, hear, see and write clearly with or without assistive device(s).
- Walk, stand for the full scheduled period, with minimal sitting options.
- Adhere to all Board and District policies.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal and/or Superintendent.
Other Responsibilities:
- Maintains consistent, predictable and physical attendance to meet the requirements of the position
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree.
- Valid Michigan Elementary Teacher Certificate, (K-5 All Subjects, K-8 Self-Contained).
- Must meet ESSA requirements.
- Ability and willingness to work collaboratively with grade level teachers and with teachers across grade levels.
- Familiarity with course content standards and expectations.
- Willingness to learn and understand current educational strategies and curriculum.
- Ability to plan and implement activities for maximum effectiveness.
- Basic understanding and knowledge of current technology and the ability to incorporate it into the classroom.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in elementary instruction.
- Has experience teaching developmentally appropriate lessons following assigned curriculum guidelines.
- Experience with RTI programs and the ability to incorporate these into the classroom.
- Experience with CAFÉ/Daily 5 processes and 6+1 Writing Traits.
- Project Read trained.
- Trained in DRA administration.
- Making Meaning Reading trained.
- Experience with Readers/Writers Workshop.
- Ability to relate positively and communicate curriculum effectively with students, parents, staff and the community
Physical Requirements:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be required to sit, use hands to finger, talk and hear.
- The employee is regularly required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust, focus, especially due to concentration on a computer screen and small numbers.
The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the District.
