OPEN POSITION:                        SENIOR ARMY INSTRUCTOR (SAI)

STARTING COMPENSATION:      Comensurate to experience and JROTC Guidelines
                                                       
PRIMARY FUNCTION:                    

The Senior Army Instructor (SAI) serves as the department chairperson and chief instructor for the JROTC unit. In this role, the SAI is responsible for overseeing all instructional and leadership activities within the program, ensuring the successful development and delivery of JROTC curriculum, and providing guidance and mentorship to students and staff. The SAI will work closely with school administration to maintain the overall integrity and success of the JROTC program.

                                                    
 QUALIFICATIONS:     

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Certified U.S. Army Cadet Command to teach JROTC
  • JROTC Certification by the State of Missouri
  • Commissioned member of the U.S. Army in the grade of Lieutenant Colonel (05) or Major (04) with a minimum of 20 years active commissioned service and retired from the U.S. Army under honorable conditions. If no previous JROTC Instructor experience, retirement must have occurred within the past five (5) calendar years.
  • Must meet U.S. Army retention medical fitness standards of Chapter 3, AR 50-501 (minimum of "1" in "S" factor of physical profile). In summary, meet good, sound physical and mental health standards.
  • Experience in a related position, preferred
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Professional Demeanor. 

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

  • JROTC Unit Management: Manage and conduct the JROTC unit according to Cadet Command guidance and school rules, regulations, and policies.
  • Policy Guidance: Advise school authorities on policy and regulation changes related to the JROTC program
  • Relationship Building: Maintain good relations with school authorities, faculty, and the student body, fostering a positive and collaborative environment.
  • Community Engagement Efforts: Conduct community engagement efforts in local middle and elementary schools, among school and community officials, civic groups, parent-teacher groups, and other stakeholders.
  • Student Enrollment and Curriculum Support: Enroll students in JROTC and support school officials while executing the curriculum and integrated extracurricular activities.
  • Training Schedule Preparation: Prepare yearly master training schedules to ensure all required training is completed and organized effectively.
  • Parent Communication: Maintain contact with parents of cadets experiencing academic or behavioral problems, ensuring open communication and collaboration for student success.
  • JROTC Unit Organization: Ensure JROTC unit areas are neat and orderly, including current chain of command photos, cadet creed, core abilities, and mission statement, while ensuring all sensitive items are secured and inventoried regularly.
  • Equipment Accountability: Maintain accountability of all equipment, including items requiring formal and informal accountability, as well as durable items costing $5,000 or less (e.g., automation, computers, audiovisual equipment).
  • Instructor Responsibility Sharing: Ensure instructors share teaching responsibilities, teaching by expertise and preference in subject areas rather than by Leadership Education and Training (LET) levels. The SAI is responsible for teaching the JROTC curriculum.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Maintain all necessary documents and information to adhere to regulatory requirements and school guidance, ensuring compliance with both internal and Cadet Command standards.
  • Adherence to Policies: Adhere to the policies and procedures of the school district, ensuring compliance with all relevant standards.
  • Attendance: Maintain regular attendance in accordance with district requirements, setting a positive example for cadets and staff.
  • Confidentiality and Integrity: Maintain confidentiality and uphold unquestionable integrity in all professional interactions and tasks, ensuring trustworthiness and professionalism in all responsibilities.

KNOWLEDGE

  1. JROTC Curriculum and Cadet Command Guidelines: The Senior Army Instructor (SAI) must possess in-depth knowledge of the JROTC curriculum and Cadet Command guidelines, ensuring the development and delivery of a structured, effective program. This includes understanding the leadership education and training (LET) levels and adapting instruction to meet diverse student needs.
  2. School Regulations and Policies: The SAI must be knowledgeable in the school district’s rules, regulations, and policies, and be able to enforce them within the JROTC program. They should advise school authorities on policy changes and ensure JROTC operations align with broader educational objectives.
  3. Program Management and Compliance: The SAI must understand regulatory requirements and compliance standards relevant to the JROTC program, including maintaining the proper documentation, ensuring equipment accountability, and overseeing the inventory of sensitive items and durable equipment.

ABILITIES

  1. Leadership and Mentorship: The SAI must demonstrate strong leadership abilities to guide cadets and instructors, fostering personal growth, discipline, and leadership skills. This includes providing mentorship, managing both instructional and extracurricular activities, and ensuring students understand the values and principles of JROTC.
  2. Effective Communication and Relationship Building: The SAI must be capable of building and maintaining relationships with school authorities, faculty, cadets, parents, and the local community. This includes conducting public affairs efforts and maintaining contact with parents regarding student progress, particularly with academic or behavioral concerns.
  3. Program Coordination and Administration: The SAI must possess the ability to effectively manage all aspects of the JROTC program, including scheduling training activities, ensuring instructors share teaching responsibilities according to their expertise, and managing enrollment. Additionally, the SAI must ensure that all program activities are executed smoothly and efficiently, in line with school policies and Cadet Command expectations.

SKILLS

  1. Organizational and Time Management Skills: The SAI must have excellent organizational skills to manage various aspects of the JROTC program, including training schedules, documentation, equipment inventory, and student enrollment. The ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively is essential.
  2. Problem-Solving and Conflict Resolution: The SAI should have strong problem-solving skills to address challenges related to student behavior, academic issues, or program logistics. This includes resolving conflicts and ensuring that cadets are supported in both their academic and personal development.
  3. Instructional and Teaching Expertise: As the chief instructor, the SAI must possess advanced instructional skills to teach the JROTC curriculum effectively. This includes being able to adapt teaching methods to suit various learning styles and levels, and sharing responsibilities with other instructors based on their expertise.


ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS:

  • Duties performed typically in district settings to include the cafeteria, gym, recreational areas and other assigned areas.
  • Physical demands can include but are not limited to: Exerts up to 40 lbs of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects including equipment such as audio-visual.
  • Frequent walking, standing, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, and other limited physical activities are required.
  • Mental demands can include but are not limited to: Comparing, copying, computing, compiling, analyzing, coordinating, and synthesizing.
  • Frequent movement of students by wheelchairs and other mechanical devices may be required.
  • Ability to collaborate with peers, positive attitude and flexible with change.
