Duties

Operates the derrick handling construction equipment, machinery, materials, and miscellaneous supplies.,During the winter months, supervises all repairs to house, hull, machinery, and equipment.,Conducts safety meetings and life saving drills for the adequate protection of all personnel onboard.,Properly maintains marine safety equipment, e.g., fire protection, lifesaving and first-aid equipment and instructs crew members in their use.,Assesses weather and marine conditions on the Great Lakes and adapts operations accordingly.,Provide basic instruction and leadership to assigned crew during normal operations, emergency situations and training such as fire or abandon ship drills.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) MASTER-DERRICKBARGE ~ without more than normal supervision. have worked on a vessel of a crane or derrick barge engaged in channel maintenance and hoisting services, utilizing electronic positioning equipment for locating obstructions and for checking locations as work progresses. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. PHYSICAL EFFORTWork requires walking, bending, reaching, standing for prolonged periods, turning, or moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to direct or assist in operations on deck or below. Moderate physical effort is required in accomplishing tasks. Incumbent is subject to physical strain from swaying or jarring movements of the vessel. Close hand and eye coordination is required when operating controls to maneuver vessel in traffic, in confined areas, and during derrick operations. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed both inside and outside aboard floating plant in all types of weather. There is danger of drowning due to accident or storm and particularly due to improper lifting or handling ofheavy objects which may cause the derrick to overturn. There is further danger of injury due toblasting operations. The possibility of falling or slipping on wet or icy decks, ladders, etc. is alwayspresent. Is exposed to dirt and grease when making minor repairs to vessel and machinery.

Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Appointment is subject to the completion of a favorable suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a background investigation. Direct deposit of pay is required. This is a(n) 18 Career Field position. Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees.
