WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
The Assistant Controller is a critical accounting leader for the Hotel and as such, needs to be a culture-focused, strong leader with excellent functional and leadership skills and experience. Our Complex Assistant Controller will work directly with closely with department heads, the Assistant Controller, General Manager and Complex Controller to teach, guide and develop the team so that all are advancing in their skills and providing proper information to complete required accounting functions. Strong training and communication skills along with a desire to continue to learn and grow are essential for this role.

WHAT WE EXPECT FROM YOU:
 
  • Responsible for assigned phases of accounting for The Hotel at the University of Maryland and Cambria College Park; primarily supporting the Complex Controller
  • Manage daily accounting functions, including journal entries, accruals, and general ledger activity for both hotels
  • Post daily bank activity to ensure timely and accurate cash tracking; complete monthly bank reconciliations and resolve reconciling items promptly
  • Review daily final figures from PMS imports into the ProfitSword accounting system
  • Oversee purchase order process and support department heads through direct training, meetings and follow-up
  • Reconcile weekly folio exchange room charges between hotels, ensuring accuracy and proper documentation
  • Process credit applications for direct billing and set up vendors for all departments
  • Troubleshoot all guest disputes pertaining to group or advanced individual billing
  • File hotel occupancy and sales taxes with the appropriate state and county agencies in a timely and accurate manner
  • Support budget and forecast processes as needed by providing historical analysis and assisting with variance reporting
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts monthly and assist in maintaining the accuracy and integrity of the financial statements.
  • Act as backup for the Assistant Controller responsible for revenue, cash receipts, and AR ledger management
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Complex Controller, General Manager, or Southern Management Director of Accounting

JOB KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Sound leadership and managerial skills
  • Proficient in financial systems and hotel property management systems (e.g., ProfitSword, Opera, Delphi, etc).
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and hotel-specific accounting practices.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
