The Impact You’ll Make in this Role
The Congo Falls Ambassador & Hype Squad Costume Character is a dynamic, high-energy representative of San Antonio Zoo, dedicated to sparking excitement and creating unforgettable connections with our community.
This temporary, part-time role runs now through December 31 and has a primary mission: serve as a Congo Falls Ambassador, bringing the buzz of our brand-new gorilla habitat directly to the public. You will set up and operate a fully branded outreach space at key San Antonio hot spots (primarily on weekends), engaging with guests, sharing stories about our animals, and building anticipation for the grand opening of Congo Falls.
When you are not out in the community, you will join the Hype Squad inside the zoo, stepping into the role of a costumed character, hyping up crowds, posing for photos, and delivering pure joy to guests of all ages.
We are looking for fun, outgoing, and personable individuals who love interacting with people, thrive in lively environments, and are passionate about promoting the zoo both on-site and out in the city. As a Congo Falls Ambassador, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people in San Antonio. Here, you will make an impact by:
Congo Falls Ambassador – GO Team (Primary)
- Begin shift at San Antonio Zoo to load the zoo vehicle with all activation materials, including tent, table, chairs, giveaway items, signage, and branded collateral.
- Drive to assigned off-site location and set up a fully branded 10’x10’ outreach space.
- Engage with the public in a friendly, enthusiastic, and informative way, distributing promotional materials and building excitement for San Antonio Zoo and the grand opening of Congo Falls.
- Maintain a professional and approachable demeanor as the face of the zoo in the community.
- Break down and pack all activation materials at the conclusion of the event.
- Return to the zoo to unload and properly store all equipment.
- Represent the zoo with positivity and energy at all times while on assignment.
Hype Squad – Costume Characters (Secondary)
- Perform as a costumed character inside the zoo, engaging guests with enthusiasm and personality.
- Pose for photographs and participate in guest interactions at designated locations.
- Follow daily appearance schedules provided by the Consumer Events Manager.
- Escort costumed characters when needed, ensuring both performer and guest safety.
- Maintain costumes, including cleaning and basic upkeep.
Your Skills and Expertise
To set you up for success in this role from day one, the San Antonio Zoo recommends the following skills/qualifications:
- Fun, outgoing, and personable personality with a passion for engaging the public.
- Prior experience in public speaking, promotions, or performance preferred.
- Must be available to work weekends and occasional evenings, now through December 31.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required.
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Comfortable working in a costume with limited vision for extended periods.
- Able to safely lift at least 50lbs and handle physical setup/teardown of event spaces.
